Well NOT a Barris car for sure, despite the Barris crest.

I have seen a very similar car - most likely the same one - in a Mike Key book from 1990. The car was then painted silver and did not have the exhaust outlets and tunneled antenna in the front fenders. But the proportions of this once coupe now "convertible" are the same.
    All I know about it.

Amos Carson must be rollin' in his grave with that 'puffy lid'! And the Police-style dummy spots...Otherwise, nice work.

I think I have the same magazine issue that Rikster mentioned and that wasn't a bad looking custom before someone decided that it need a bunch of crap and the tribal flames added to it.

  7. Although bad,those aren't "Tribal" flames.....

flames really are a hit in miss on a ride.. some they work well others not so much.. then the design, color/shading.. so many variables.. getting flames to look right is a tough one i think.

Ok my error, I am one of those who just don't see flames as being right on what should be tail dragger customs. Make that a Black 40 Coupe with big and littles and those flames would be just right.

Is there is any particular advantage to having the radiator stick up in the air so much?

I recognize that car. A local here owned it several years back (about 7?). He claimed it was a Barris built car. My dad bought a car from the same guy that claimed his (Marv Ringheim's old 56 Chevy) was a Barris built car. In the end we were much more proud of it being a Ringheim build than a Barris (Sam would have been a different tale).
Looking for any particular info on it or just curious to see if anyone knows the car?

I think they were calling it the "teen angel" or something similar.
I'll look, but I think I may have a few photos of it around here somewhere. I'll be back.

Great eye, Mr48...right as usual. Flames on 'kustoms' don't make 'em hot.

I had a guy over (helping him with his front axle/hairpins) and he's looking at my '27 Highboy.
"What color you gonna paint it?" he asked. "Dark blue, actually an old Ford color: Washington blue. Nice and sedate, nothing 'flashy'."

"What color FLAMES?" he asked.... I shook my head.

    don't flame me, Bud LOL

  24. I don't like flames on cars like that. Should be one color and have skirts and lower the rear. Big and littles would look bad on that car, cause it has that Carson style top. That removes it from the Hotrod family and puts it in the Custom family.

I've seen repro Barris crests for sale on E.bay, so the ones on the car probably had`nt been made then Bob  :D.
And that style of flames used to be called "sea weed" flames... Google `long bladder kelp` and you`ll see the similarity...

Brian, I'm curious. What made you Google 'Long Bladder Kelp' in the first place, sounds like a urinary infection.....:)

update is the car was brought into the UK from a ebay buy when the the dollar was two to the pound, trunk was 'jimmied' open on arrival at the docks to get to the flat battery, car resides in Newport, Wales (Wales is a little village just outside England) my guess is the guy does'nt know what appletons are and just thinks there spot lights......reckon this will appear for sale sometime soon.......
