Just a thought, maybe with so many people around to "help" now you could get someone grillin' burgers. And each guy could bring one thing, like so and so bring mustard, some one else bring the patties etc. Just an idea.

  4. So tonight was Johnny's night, which means more T Bagger Coupe action! More Pizza for supper, and no Big Dick Dave this week also. He hoped on a plane to Vegas this afternoon to go race dune buggys, shoot machine guns, and spend his hard earned money on craps and legal prostitution!
We started out the night by watching some Billy Idol videos on youtube. It's a long story, you guys will have to wait until November to find out why....

After the Billy Idol videos we decided to work on the car. Charlie brought over the new 327 block which turns out to be from a 62 Corvette. It was loaded on the engine stand for some polishing!

While they were doing that I grabbed the templates from the ladder bar mounts and started to make them out of some 3/16" plate. Johnny didnt like they paper ones I made. He thinks they would tear under acceleration...
This peice of plate was generously donated by the Edmonton Street Rod Association after one of their welding seminars.

Some Block Polishing!! Everyone kind of took turns polishing.

Charlie grabbed the new camel hump heads and decided to hog my fab table while he took them apart.

Colin was also sharing space on the fab bench with me while he marked the holes in the ladder mounts to be drilled out.

And while we were all doing this, Johnny drank a beer....

Colin spent a lot of time on the drill press tonight. There was a lot of holes to drill...

Sasha came by later on and took some more pictures....

More polishing... smoothing the heads right in with the block now...

Once Colin had some holes drilled, I started to weld up the ladder bar mounts
    [IMG]

Colin never did manage to get all the holes drilled. It was getting late and the hole saw pretty much packed it in. Next time it's Johnny's night we'll get these finished up. These pieces are just a gusset from the ladder bar mount up the side of the X member.

All cleaned up after a good nights work

  10. The car next to Johnny is a 30's sprint car I'm restoring for a customer. I've been working on it off and on for 3 years now as the customers budget allows.
Here it was last time it left the shop.

Here is a photo Sasha took of it a few weeks ago.

Yea there is quite a crew showing up now. Cost a little more for supper, but more works usually gets done. And the "new guys" are learning a lot too.

  12. Just in case your curious, the beer was Old Milwaukee. I only drank about half of it, and I hid the other half somewhere in the shop for Lee to enjoy it later.

  13. Thanks Johnny...

  14. with all those good canadian beers up there, your drinking old milwaukee? engine looks good and you guys a having fun as usual.

  15. Wednesday night again....
Tonight was suppose to be Big Dick Daves night, but him and Charlie ditched us to go to the big drag race tonight. So we skipped to my turn.
As most of you know, I had a catastrophic engine failure on Friday, and we have all been working everynight since Sunday to get my car back together with a new engine. For those that missed the thread, here is a link
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=615424

Anyways tonight we started by bolting the heads, intake and other odds and ends before bolting the engine back in the car.

Fat Dave was a little late arriving. His daughter had her 3rd birthday yesterday, so tonight they went out to party.
    Oh, and Happy Birthday Lucy!

    Almost back together...

Chris, a fan from the Hamb, came by and helped out also. Chris has a 35 Ford humpback, 37 Ford slantback, and a 29 roadster.

Sasha came by and took some more pictures tonight. He must really like us.

by 11:30 we had it all back together.

When we attempted to fire it, it would not get any fuel. The pump is not pumping. It's the pump off the old engine, and the damage to the old engine was in the back, right below the fuel pump, so I'm thinking the pump may have been damaged also. Tomorrow I'll hook up an electric pump and start trouble shooting as to why it won't pump. We were all pretty exhausted after a long week of working on the car. I originally wanted to have it going by the weekend, I still have two days left!

Thats when we called it a night... so we thought. Just after Johnny and Liam left, they suddenly came back.... in reverse.
Johnny's shifter linkage came apart, and the car was running like shit!
We jacked it up and fixed the linkage, just needed a clip. Once it was back on the ground I took a look at the carb and noticed it was dumping fuel like crazy. A quick adjustment of the float and he was on his way home to bed

  16. Glad to see you got the new/used motor in the roadster Lee. Hope you get the fuel pump sorted...

Good to see the young-ens having a great time with the flattie. Brings back memories when I was his age eons ago.

  24. Can't believe I've not read this thread till now.

  25. The gold engine looks great Lee!

  26. So tonight was kind of a special night, John in OZ and Rusty Olds came all the way to Edmonton from Australia just to hang out with us tonight. They gave us Australian souvenirs, we gave them broken flathead parts....
We worked on Daves fleetline tonight.
We started out by lifting the new engine off the engine stand so we could remove the flexplate and bellhousing and swap it out for the flywheel and bellhousing off of Daves old engine.

    What a strange hat....

Once the bellhousing was removed I gave it a coat of engine rebuild in a can...spray paint!

Once the paint was dry, Dave marked out the holes to drill for the motor mount
    [IMG]

While he was doing that Johnny and I started pulling the old engine out...

Sasha the photographer came by later on and started cooking us a feast of turkey burgers. Sasha runs a catering company during the day. It was great! Best supper we had in a long time.

    Transmission was leaking coolant!

This was something interesting for John in OZ as we had to explain to him in the northern hemisphere drill bits spin the opposite direction as in the southern hemisphere.
It took him a while but he eventually figured it out... i think
    [IMG]

He eventually gave up on the drilling and came to help johnny and I
    [IMG]

Just as we were lifting the engine out, Sasha called us to the bbq for supper.

    ???

    ????????????

With the engine out we stripped the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel and bell housing. We tried getting the pilot bushing out, but it wasn't working so good. Dave ordered a new one, but it hasn't shown up yet.

We called it a night around 11:30. As usual it was a good time!

You guys ever used grease to get a bushing out?

Fill the hole with grease and get a punch with the same OD as the ID of the bushing.
Then insert the punch in to hole and hammer it. The force of the punch pushing
on the grease will transfer equally to the bushing, driving it out.

I about shit the first time I tried it and it worked.

    Jeff

  28. Actually Dave mentioned the grease thing, but I didn't think it would work

  29. Wow you guys are getting a pretty good crew going these days!! Nice work. I could use a little less of Dave's butt crach but that's just me....carry on.
