Hey. Name's Mark. I'm here in Detroit, (Wyandotte, specifically,) visiting in-laws. The one potential saving grace of this trip is the Dream Cruise. Never been, and know shit-all about Detroit. I plan on spending all day Saturday trying to see what I can see. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me. We've got a 15mo old son, and another on the way, and the in-laws are moving from here sometime in the near future. So I'm trying to make the most of it.

So what I'm asking is if I can hitch a ride with anybody tonight or tomorrow to go get familiarized with the goings-on. I'm trying to avoid the typical sections of the cruise. I like the home-built, traditional, billet-free rigs more than your Boyd-bought fiber fender stuff. Not that there isn't an appreciation for a well built rod, I just prefer the oddball stuff. Everything from diesel swapped rats to custom West-Coast lowriders with lacework and candy to old German steel, etc. So if anybody's headed that way, and doesn't mind my goofy ass tagging along, please let me know and I'll shoot you a phone number. Thanks a lot!

One of the cool things about the cruise, is that it brings em alllll outta the woodwork. You'll see a stretch limo dune buggy, behind a Donk, riding next to a 71 GTX, who's in front of a 62 lifted Impala, next to a flame thowing 50 ford, in front of a boydster. The mix of people & genres is what makes it what it is. Personally wouldnt "avoid the typical sections" since the whole thing is a moving show of sorts. Stand in one place long enough and you'll see a little of everything.

If your heart is set on trad stuff though, i beleive the Relix Roit is this weekend, at the gilmore museum.

Thanks for the heads-up! This is what I'm talking about. I've got no idea what I'm in for. I know various neighborhoods seem to have activities set up around the cruise, each with a different focus. I just don't know where to go to park and stand. It sounds awesome, though. I'm going to have to look into the Riot, though.

Holy second-page, Batman! Threads move quick around here! Is there somewhere else that this would be better suited?

Thanks for the advice, Derbydad. Today was awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing what it's like tomorrow! Seems like people don't adhere to the lane regulations well, though. But whatever, we all still had a good time. I assume tomorrow will be gridlock, though. I'm going to have to find my way around on the side streets.
