Another beautiful painting by Peter Helck titled 'The Mile of Dirt'. It can be found in both of his books 'The Checkered Flag' and 'Great Auto Races'.

Thank you for the up-close photos. They are inspiring to me. I will try to duplicate some of those details in my home built replica.

Thanks for the photos Keith. I can't stop staring at the Bentley and the wonderful body on the Frazer Nash. It's good to see some 'closed' cars being allowed to compete.

Is this the same car above?

I'm not familiar with the exact history of this car, but it's presumably a "re-creation" on the original chassis. Built up on the inevitable GN chassis, the original GN engine went to Hippisley-Cox for Grasshopper. RB then fitted an 1100cc blown Magna unit. Brakes came from a LeaF and the radiator is described as Darracq - for which perhaps read Talbot. It did win a race at Donington in this form, but Bolster then removed the MG engine after it put a rod through the side and fitted four 500cc Rudge motorcycle engines.

As you can see, it was somewhat more rudimentary by then:

That picture is scanned from John Bolster's "Specials", page 55, which also has a picture of it in period with the full bodywork.

Let us know what you come up with.

I've read that prior to the BW Trophy local merchants donated a trophy of their choosing to the winner.
Gary Doyle in his wonderful book on Murphy mentions in the Introduction Murphy's 1922 Trophy being located in the Great Grandparents (who raised him) hallway
-it was a fringed floor lamp.

For accuracy's sake let's call this a Panhard-Levassor, which is where the L in the logo comes from. They kept the full name at least through the 1920s.
