These guys seem to have it right. Nothing wrong with a seperate area for the traditional rods and still letting the other old cars in too. I don't know where they will make me park and don't care, good music, cool location, and maybe even a cocktail or two; this sounds like a good start to a weekend to me!

Now I'm torn. I went to Woodward today. Got there around 3:00, drove the entire strip up through Pontiac and back, just scoping it out. My neck was snapping left and right, even that early. Yeah, there's a lot of tri-fives, Camaros, and typical other stuff, but there's also some great rides out there. I love the traditional stuff, and really appreciate what goes into them, but I'm not a traditionalist. I like the oddball shit. Old Pontiac flower cars. Opels. VWs. I got to sit in a Citroen Lomax. There's a lot there to ignore, but a lot to take in, too! Yeah, I got sick of neon underbody lights and poorly built IROCs, but I'm really curious to see what kind of gems make it out tomorrow.

Sadly, though, there was very little, if anything that could be considered "traditional" by this definition. There were some sad attempts at "rat rods," and a couple of "traditional" pieces with SBCs and other incorrect things going on. I'm not that well educated, but these were easy to pick out. There wasn't a lot of fabrication there, either. I really want to check out the Riot for the cars and music, but don't want to miss the Cruise either. I may not get up here again for a few years, so I don't want to go see something I can catch back home. The Riot looks big, but we've got some traditional events much closer to home. How many cars typically turn out for the riot? Am I going to kick my own ass for not making it out? It's not like I get to show. I'm driving a friggin' Scion. Sadly, I stick out less at the cruise.

Come to the riot till early afternoon then head back to the cruise. The museums themselves will make it worth more than anything the dreamcruise has to offer.

This might make it worth the 5 hours of travel. I guess I just need to put on my big-boy pants and make the trip. Googlemapping now!
