I think it was a 12.5** to Beer Billman and the T-Bag's 12.34!!! I seen it run low 13's to mid 12's

Marky ran in the 12's and I was there when Ryan paid up on his long ago bet that the People Eater would never run better than 13's.

12's from a what, maybe 2500lb car with a blown pontiac? Underestimate?? I know this is the HAMB, but jeez...

Just try making a p*** on those repop piecrust slicks--I can tell you from personal experience that it is like driving on ice. I did more steering in one half p*** in Kerry dragster than I did in every run in the NT/F car last year.

  11. George,
it is not a power to weight thing. It is a matter of making it hook. Not nearly as easy to build an 8 second car as it is to build an 8 second engine.

There is always the question of can you have too much HP and everyone says "NO!!!" but that simply isn't the truth. If you can't make it hook you will almost always make better p***es with less HP.

  12. Oh, is that why everybody runs small block Chevys!? :D:D:D

Isn't the rear end in that thing welded solid to the frame? I bet traction sure is an issue!....I remember someone wrote hate mail to a magazine that featured the car a few years ago swearing that it would never p*** tech inspection:rolleyes:
I love the car either way..:)

Man, the only word to think of while watching the Purple People Eater and Bill's Tea Bag staging and getting ready to do battle on the two-lane tarmac is just . . . . . . EPIC ! ! ! !

  15. You said it.

I don't know the owner and I don't know the car that well...like how it's set up for race tech rules and safety ********...but depending on that maybe they don't wanna run the car faster. Or just don't wanna break it. A big reason why guys in my neck of the woods don't run too fast, is because they have to get into too much work and $$$ to keep it on the track in the faster cl***es. I've seen alot of cars that could run 10's or better that race consistent 12.5's to avoid the onslaught of tech and safety regulations.

Or maybe the PPE gets floored and can only go that fast the way that it's set up???

I'm curious what the driver/owner has to say about it.

  16. i have run in the eights on a set of pie crust slicks . the car was the one in the avatar. rt 66 raceway. i did treat the to a heavy dose of tire softener. and i do have it on video. banged the rev limiter at 1000 ft to. maybe a suspension adjustment would help.

  17. No we run small blocks because you can have too little HP. :D:D

  18. So far as I know it only runs outlaw. There was a time when you could run cars set up like that but there was also a time when a 12 second car was considered fast.

One thing that should be kept in perspective with the HAMB drags is that it is not "Nostalgia" racing. All a Nostalgia car is, is a modern race car with an old looking body. The HAMB drags leans more toward vintage racing, some of the cars we see making p***es once a year are gennie vintage race cars and a good bunch of them are built like real vintage race cars.

I have not seen the people eater up close enough to give details on the build but from the pics that I have seen it is a close to a late '50s built car as you are going to find. The Shifters is a trad club or a vintage club if you prefer they do not lean in a modern direction at all.

I can't believe anyone would take the PPE to task for not being a compe***ive drag car in 2011.

  20. I don't think anybody is taking it to task....I think we're all just curious how fast the thing can really go....because by just looking at it you'd think it could be a 10 second car. IMO. And I don't think anybody is going to think less of the car no matter how fast it can or can't go.

You would be nuts to drive that thing in the 10s... With a wheel base that short and with a solid rear, etc... the last thing you want to do is hook up.

It is what it is... and it was pretty fun to watch.

That car always gets comments, and a little controversy going. It was so 'groundbreaking' in it's own way, that it never even had to run. The fact that it Does run and Marky actually drives it, is amazing to me. The shifters are heroes to me for keeping their beliefs and tradition alive.

There is no rear suspension adjustment that would help the car launch whereas your car has a blown hemi and late model style ch***is and suspension. Marky's car is basically an Ed Roth cartoon that actually exists in metal. Gary Dyer ran 8.63 with the original version of your car back in the day and he did not have anything like the sophisticated running gear that your car has. Marky built the car to have fun, not run big numbers.
