Features 1940's period correct customs

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by Django, Dec 8, 2009.

  1. Really ? Do you mind showing me some proof? The car that I posted doesn't seem to be "way" before the Torpedo was out. That car was built before the Torpedo was out but this picture was wasn't.

just went though the whole thread(again) back to top.

  3. So, on a bigger car (1941-1948 Ford), were 6.00 16 or 6.50 16's the popular choice?

6.00 was the standard size. 6.50s could be ordered as an option.

I'm guessing 6.50's won't fit on a lowered '41 and be able to change the tire quickly if needed...

here are my flipper caps that are going on my 41 chevy when its done. i got them from a guy that had them stamped out in the early 70s. i just have to smooth out the little circle line on the tops of them and mount the single bar.

Im wondering why no one has made any recent repros of those yet? I would buy a set just to hold on to...

  12. I've found that the original flippers are wheel specific in that the exteriors are identical but the mounting holes on the back differ wether it be wide 5, '40 steel, GM etc.

Mine are true wide 5 because of the massive 11 3/4" (?) hole on the back.

Other aftermarket caps like the Lyons seem to use the more universal outer teeth like a trim rim.

the ones i have are for early ford 16" rims. i told the guy what they will be going on and he got stoked. so he comes 2 boxes. they had to a pair in each box. 2 days later i get a call from the guy. he said that i will be getting a couple more boxes. he sent me a set of chevy caps that fit my stock wheels. the note said find a really good fabricator and have him switch out the backs. i cant wait to get them done and mock them up.

here is a pic you can see part of the 41. its bone stock and completely empty. i have 2 different grill im trying to figure out what i want to use. one is a 41 buick and the second is a 46 chevy. it will be chopped or ill will do the whole convert it to a carson top. i love the way carson tops look. the 51 chevy is getting closer. so im hoping to start building the 41 in feb of next year.

Flames to me are not good on these body style. This car looks sweet. Just a bit lower in the back. That way you get that speed boat look. Then put a smaller exhaust tip on it. Other then that its one sexy ass car.

Now i have to figure a way to make a 41 chevy look smooth and cool. The lines on the chevies are so different then the fords. It seems more fords and mercuries were getting customized in the 40s. when i start on it. Its going to end up looking like it rolled out of the late 40s.

I just found out Gene Winfield is a great country western singer as well a super body and paint man with a long history.

I have a 46 chevy grill. So im thinking that grill with the black 41's chop might be just right. That black one has the best chop out there. There is another 41 on the other side of the pond. the chop is a lot different. i like the chop on it too, but its not a period correct 40s custom. get it back off the ground and different wheels and it will be perfect.

I disagree on lowering it more for the '40s look. It's perfect as it sits.
