  1. And this is why i love this car. Nice to see it running good numbers, but i love it for being the "ART" that it is. :D:cool:

i remember the first time i seen this car was at a mooneyes show in norwalk at there shop before it was moved to irwindale raceway. what an outrageous site. i don't get the note about the solid rear though. most altereds run this way and just about all fuel altereds do. with new slicks it could easily do much better times. but hey, why should anybody get upset at it's times. if he wanted to make it faster i am sure he could. it's just a treat to see it run no matter how fast it goes. i run a flathead bantam altered and i get that question quite a lot too. "why doesn't it go faster. it looks like it could". maybe, but it runs ever time i drive it and it has never broke in 17 years of driving it. oh ya, it does 15.00 flat. in closing, i think from a rolling piece of art stand point, it runs and he drives it. more than i can say for a lot of art people build.

I watched that car run from behind the rear stageing lanes. That little car left two wavy black marks till the 1000 foot mark where he shut it off.
Clicking off at 1000 foot and still run a low 12 gives you an idea of its potential.

Yea, he could run a set of modern wrinkle wall slicks and stay in it till the line, but that brings its own set of problems and might even take the fun out of it.

The car was bad *** in person, I'm glad I got to see it. One of my favorite Pontiac motors of all time.

I would have thought a car that hooked up would be considered "non traditional" and unacceptable for here. But then what do I know? I still think dragsters should have the engines in front and be hazing the tires in the lights. Smok'em PPE.

  6. the PPE is pure HAMB material. Traditional and outrageous. A pure piece of rolling art that begs for controversy. Is the owner/driver happy? Does he wear the big grin. ****, if the thing ran in the 15's who the hell cares. Heck, I'd take him on with my Econoline, but we'd have to call it a race after the 100ft mark. I get a little bite, see a bit of the sky, and come crashing down by then. The rest is just a joy ride down the track. One of these years I'm gonna bring candy to throw to the kids. While mine is not completely Hamb friendly, it was built to mimic those golden years of drag racing.
While having not done the Mokan thing yet, I believe a very big thank you is in order to Ryan for keeping the dream alive.

  7. I just don't understand, how there could be any controversy.

This is a BAD *** car, built in the light of our creative hero's from the 60's.

It takes a HUGE set of balls to get in that car and nail it. When the loud pedal was mashed it was Skating! Hang on Marky!

So F'n RAD the Cali Crew made it out to MoKan for the Drags! EPIC!

Me TOO! So glad I got to see it with my OWN EYES!

1956 block and crank, welded and ground to a 4" stroke, a 4" bore, mostly OLD parts, M/T rods, milled mains with plates, 8 Strombergs!

    Sooo RAD!

I'd love to see some pics of the original PPE.

I would rather do 12s in PPE than do 10s in a street rod! Mark screw the **** eaters!

I saw the car run It's an old school car of course not a 100K -150K purpose built dragster. I liked how the car looked. It's more for show then go Is obviuosly why the car was built but It looked cool going down the track,I myself race several cars every week and It takes alot of money to go alot faster.I personally dont see that this car was built to be a money pit speed demon It's a cool rod style hot rod.tradiontal styling with some go to boot.good job Marky.

I still remember the first time I saw the PPE 10 or so years ago...

I was at a party after the Nostalgia Drags at Squeek Bell's shop in Bakersfield. It's night time and I'm out in the yard with a big group of people shootin' the **** when we hear this deafening growl coming from the darkness. From out of the shadows comes this snarling purple monster. Everybody just stood there with their mouths hanging open, shuffling out of it's path like they were zombies. We all just stared at this thing as it made its way into the yard. When the car got to it's desired parking spot, the driver nailed the throttle and blew out a bunch of ear drums and probably a window or two somewhere. When he shut it down, people in the crowd started to cheer wildly.

I'll never forget the impact that car made on me and all those other people that evening. I was like 15 or 16 at the time. I loved it then and I love it now. I don't give a damn what the car runs in the 1/4 mile, the fact that it runs and drives at all is enough for me.

It's definitely cool to see it going down the track though :)

Most of you guys are missing the entire point. The car is just supposed to be fun. I think it's cool that the car is drag raced period. Doesn't matter if it runs 14's or 10's. Most clowns that build cars like that never take them to the strip. lame.

don't blame the tires it's possible to hook-up with hursts plenty of folks do.

the car gets a tough time because over 10 years ago there was talk about getting serious about it, full cage, parachute, ect. So far it's just hasn't happened so it's a really cool car, just not a really cool race car.

The Purple People Eater rules, if you think otherwise maybe you should reconsider weather or not you belong on the HAMB.

Not even close, that thing was a turd of the highest order. I saw it at Paso about five years ago and it was even worse in person.

God forbid it should ever "hook up". That's not what its about. Its about lighting them up and having a great time. Back in the time when top speed was what you aimed for. A time when very few strips had E.T. clocks. A time when you didn't know what your 60 ft. time was and cared even less. Long may the PPE smoke'm!
