'63-'67 ford/mercury 427 "r" cars

    That 1964 T-Bolt clone (they call it a tribute) you speak of failed to meet the $69,900 asking price and has been relisted for $69,900 or best offer.

    The real deal and clones are two totally different animals. Actual selling prices have always shown that fact.

    Hey Wickedjohn, great video, but can you disable the automatic start feature?
    Every time I click on this thread I scare the crap out of everyone in the room.
    Last night my wife was snoozing on the couch and she jumped fifty feet when that video started!

    X2. Please disable the automatic start feature. Every time I come to this thread (which is often) I have to turn off the sound.

    The FE series of the Racing Group at Ford in both the hallmark Ford and Mercury bodies were top notch performers. They were strong, did have some glitches but were easily ID'd by shop folks and when cured of those they were constant winners at the Drag Strips. Ford ruled the NASCAR circuit in '57-61. They had a lot of stiff competition but they kept driving in to the winners circle.

    '65 SOHC.jpg This may be the most valuable "R" car ever built. If NASCAR had not banned the SOHC there would have been many more Galaxies built with it. The option price was reasonable. I wonder if this car is still out there somewhere. Cooper just died in 2004 so I know he knew something about it. Have any of you read about it in the last 45 years?

    I bought the car 3 month ago and finally have time to start working on it. pulled the heads to look everything over, changed all the intake valves, had a intake gasket go bad some years ago, needs a little paint and interior touch up, but what it really needs is to be driven, something I'm good at.     Though not an R-code, its still a 427 car. Saw and photographed this at a show in Michigan a couple weeks ago.

    That is a neat car. Any idea what all the gauges are? Almost has a cop car look to it.

    i could be wrong , but i don't think this is mike schmitt . in '65 - IIRC - mike raced the same '64 lt. wt. he raced in '64 . i believe he won the AA/SA class both years with that car . in '66 mike raced a '66 galaxie with a cammer in B/FX .

    The provided picture is too grainy but the name Mike Schmitt is lettered on the roof. Not sure when he transitioned to the '65 body style.

    Didn't CK Spurlock own the Mike Schmitt '64 Galaxie Lightweight at one time? I don't know what happened to it afterwards.

    i have a question for the knowledgeable in this thread....i have a good friend with a 62 galaxie 500XL 2 door 406/c-6 #'s matching car, he had FOMOCO tripower for it, recently sold the tripower. he is wanting to put a late model mustang drive train in the car, how much of a bad idea is this??

    I just threw up a little bit reading this. If he want's to ruin the value of the car that much, then he might as well just do it and give me the 406 for free.

    Also, there were no C6's in '62, so it can't be a complete number's matching car.

    Gettin' off thread here but if it is a factory "G" VIN with XL package it is rare .
    Ford only made about 1200 of 'em.
    BTW Ford's 6 barrell intake is not properly called a 'tripower'.
    Splittin' hairs I know but Tripower is GM marketing lingo.

    I wonder how many of these that were C-6's and 4dr that were produced for govt fleet, like FBI etc? Anyone have an idea? I know Mopar made some 426 4dr sedan pkgs. I saw a couple at the Garlits museum.
    Was 410 horse a K or Q code? I saw a list of all FMC engine codes posted here on HAMB somewhere once and I should have copied it off. It had the different 6's and all.

    what auto trans was in them in '62? he just told me it was c6 i have not looked at it. i will go check and see what vin it was. he already converted it to a 4 speed car for some unknown reason. i totally disagree with him wanting to put in the mustang drive train. he has a falcon he it making a "hot rod" out of and it has taken priority over the galaxie. i stressed to him how much cooler his galaxie will me "restored" than resto-modded.

    hi tom -
    i'm sure no expert on this , but i've always read that an auto trans was not available behind a 427 ... nor the 406 , 390 , or 352 hi pos . the '63 - '64 lt. wts. [ and the thunderbolts ] that came with an auto were an exception for racing , and used a lincoln trans.
    'course , i learned a long time ago to never say never - especially when it comes to FoMoCo .
    a friend of mine had an ex-FBI '69 torino fordor with a 428 and auto . i never saw the car , but he told me it was incredibly quick and , of course , a real sleeper .
    so , has anyone found anything more about the '65 AA/S galaxie posted above and said to be mike schmitt's ? i checked , and i'm still finding that he campaigned his '64 AA/SA galaxie in '65 .

    I looked through my stuff and the only '65s I could find were the Glidden and Jerry Harvey/Bob Ford cars.

    That green 67 Ford Custom with the single 4bbl 427 was on display at the Woodward Dream Cruise last week. I think there is or was a UTube of him starting it up in his garage for the first time but I don't have a link. Check the 352-427 Ford FE Forum.

    Story board with the car was ( from memory) that the original owner saved up $10K for a Cobra but his wife ran off with the money so he bought the cheapest 427 car he could get with what was left. The car was originally from upstate NY, but I think it has Ohio plates now.

    It sat in a field for something like 10 years so it is pretty ratty. He had the original window sticker on display with the car.
