Guys please heed your warnings and do whatever your state officials say. This is a big storm coming.... Good luck to those in its path, get those hot rods and customs to upper ground!!
Wonderful, my wife, both daughters, my grandson and son in law are all near Jacksonville, NC and I'm up here in NY. The time I don't go is the time a huge storm like this is baring down on them........friggin perfect
as of now looks like may hit the outer banks of carolinas and then head towards ny city . im near hartford and plan on ****in all down tommorrow
If you have trees, power lines ect looming over your house/garage move what you can farther inland. Surges in low lying area's. The usual 'bug out bag' supplies. Move stuff to the highest point of your property that you can.
I saw a Youtube shortie of vehicles leaving a beach town, and there was a Ford F 150 with a '32 Three window body in the bed. "Grab the most valuables"... All you folks back there in Harm's Way are in our prayers. This is a real threat. Our 'earthquake warnings' out here are getting more accurate, but we take them casually enough...been through a collection of 'em. We just ride 'em out like California surfers.
Should be getting 12 hours of rain tonight, but not a drop yet. I have to decide weather or not I should take the bus or drive the hot rod tomorrow to school. **If you find a red '27 model t in your yard tomorrow, that means I drove to school, and I want my car back. edit: I take that back, its pouring right now!!!
Fellows if you have never been through a hurricane, don"t take it for granted. If an evacuation is called for respect it. Family, important papers and get the hell out. This is from experience not watching it on TV. And don"t forget the pets. Good luck and stay safe.
Near Hartford myself, I'm glad I took the solar panels off the roof last year, woulda been like sails..I got a temp shed and am figuring to rachet tie it to the car & tractor inside it to keep it from sailing..Hopefully the tree up front will blow down towards the road if it goes...Got a valley on north side and winds tend to stay high when it comes from the north..I guess we'll get what we get but I hope it turns east, out to sea..
My son wants to move the daily drivers up close to the house. Everywhere else is trees. I have a 4' plus diameter Oak in front of the big shop, and one customer Model A in there. I have one Model A and one Model T outside that I can't get indoors. Ct has not seen a real bad one since 1938 which deforested areas from Long Island, NY, all the way up through Northern New England. 90% of the trees were gone in CT.
I'm in north jersey... gotta make sure I get my 54 Customline and the Lincoln to safety, guess I can park the modern junk under the trees.
Do what you got do man, soon. just dont forget about the windows thats what blows roofs off. if any wind gets into the house/garage thru an opening bye bye roof.Dont want to sound harsh but i live in Florida and trust me its scary.Good luck. i used to live in CT, Bridgeport to be exact.
Great timing, taking delivery on an OT 2012 Chevy today.. maybe they can hang onto it until Monday. I may be able to stash it in a friend's shop, will see him tonight. Other than that, if you are in a flood prone area, get the cars to high ground or crib them up in the garage. Bob
I'd suggest you dont take delivery until after the storm p***es..'cause right now its their problem, not yours
we are moving cars and my antique tractor out of the house and to the boss's garage where no trees are around. if the roof comes off; oh well...as long as a tree doesnt crush them. Right now the storm is tracking west of bridgeport or directly at bridgeport, ct which is where the meteorologists where hoping it wasnt going to go. this means as much as 12 inches of rain and 75-100mph winds IF it downgrades to a category 1. They are saying it could very well be a CAT 2 When it hits CT. I was just down at the beach visitng family the past 2 days and unlike what the weather people are telling you, the ocean water at the beach is VERY warm right now. It's so warm...it feels like bath water....which is NOT good for slowing down a hurricane. I am heading to the dairy farm that i show cattle for this afternoon to help secure everything. the farm is old and some of the barns where built in the late 1800s. While sturdy, they are not in the best of shape and many of them need to new roofs. On top of that the horrible winter we just had has jeopordized the sturdiness of many of their barns. We're moving calves and young animals to more sturdy barns, boarding up any windows to the milking parlor, getting generators ready so we can still milk cows, bringing animals in from summer pasture, etc. at the home farm we're prepping our barn and bringing in patio furniture, boarding up windows etc. Right now its craziness since we all have livestock and farms that need to be secured on top of our homes and such. PLEASE HEAD THE WARNINGS and pay close attention to what they are telling you. They are gauranteeing that this is going to be worse than Hurricane Gloria which knocked out power for 11-12 days here in the state. get the checklist together and have an emergency plan ready if needed. Make sure all vehicles are filled with fuel tomorrow. have flashlights/candles and a stock of batteries. Fill tubs and sinks with water if needed and have a stock of water for you and pets (1 gallon per person, per day). Have extra pet food and supplies and livestock feed to get you through the next week. have a stock of non perishable food (soups, canned food) and also bread and milk. Turn your fridge to max cold before the storm hits to ensure the cold lasts longer. avoid opening your fridge when the power goes out. HAVE A STOCKED FIRST AID KIT INCLUDING PEROXIDE!!! VERY important; especially if someone gets hurt during or after the storm!! if you aheva livestock and/or pets make sure you have first aid for them too. livestock could suffer cuts or serious injuries if they are kept in barns or outside during the storm. make sure cell phones are charged and a landline phone is a bonus have a stock of fuel for generators and also propane for your grill so you can cook! make sure all of your laundry is washed and dried tomorrow before the storm hits. make sure you have medications that you may need keep all personal do***ents, extra money, insurance papers, etc are kept in a central location in water tight containers make sure all windows are shut tight, doors locked and closed, etc. have a list of emergency contacts PLEASE be safe everyone and REMEBER THAT WE CAN PRAY FOR THE BEST BUT WE MUST PREPARE FOR THE WORST. For those living in CT; the storm is on a direct path to our state and we are expected to get it bad. expect heavy tree damage that will jeopordize power for up to, if not more than, a WEEK
i think i know where your located F&J; i've seen your prjects out in the yard Do you have a neighbor nearby with an open yard and less trees or the storage place up the road who could put them in for you for the weekend? theres a smaller storage place in willington on 32 that likely has space and a storage place in franklin area that specializes in storing cl***ic cars. they might be able to help keep them safe for the duration of the storm. best of luck to you guys
thank you we have fingers crossed. unfortunately our trees are not good with winds this harsh and we're expecting extensive damage. on top of that coastal flooding is expected to be the worst its ever been. the storm is rolling in at the exact time of the highest tide of the month of august due to the moon. those living on the coast of CT should be paying close attention to evacuation orders. ocean wave heights are expected to reach 30' not including the extra high tide.
Yup, the deal is postponed until Monday. The dealer was cool about it and I have nothing but trees around my driveway and way too much **** in the garage to move elsewhere. Bob
I'm 1.5 miles off the Great South Bay and 10' above the water line so I have no immediate flood concerns. The friggin' trees doing the funky chicken is my main worry. I postponed my new car delivery until Monday, but still have 2 nice cars in my driveway. I'm heading out of work at 11 to check out the surf conditions, from a safe distance. Bob
