Hell I'm just getting back into it after a 12 year "marriage & family" hiatus. Got the busted knuckles, empty wallet, brushed up on my profanity, parts ****tered everywhere and loving it. Maybe you just need a break to give it some perspective. Rent a Prius for a month or two.

I have reversed the cycle - feels good to get some space back.

Another dozen or two deals and I'll get my barn back, and my shop back and my garage back . . . I might have to write a country music song! :p

I purchased 6 or 7 in the last year that I have not picked up yet.... I have about 50 or so drivers and project/parts cars. 19 insured and current plates. I sell a few if I like who is wanting to buy.

  4. So what was the problem you were having again?;)

I suffer from the same affliction. Been thinning the herd as of late but somehow the cars are never actually "worth" the value I put on them and I usually just sell them dirt cheap purely out of disgust. Somehow I always catch myself perusing craigslist and ebay just looking for nothing in particular. I'm really trying to focus on finishing up the projects I currently have and still have an interest in though.

I've got a 30x120ft shop that's filled up and if I had more room in there I'd probably get more. Have 4 at my house and 3 at my sisters and 1 at my folks. Good thing my family understands this disease. I think I have 8 or so "projects at my shop. I'm gonna get to someday" plus the 6 out back and think I'll get to. I think it's time to finally realize I can't get to them all but it's so hard to p*** up a good deal.

The Lincoln is sweet, it speaks for itself. Nice score.

I think it's all relative. If you had a huge building and it wasn't full yet, this purchase would make you a discerning collector. If you have to stack it on top of another car on your patio or cramm it into your living room, then this purchase would .....

Prices aren't going to get much cheaper than they are now, so buy cheap now and sell higher later. Beats the hell out of my 401 K. !!!!!

You know how some kids drag home stray dogs?

I am the same way with cars.

  12. I was one of those kids. I guess some things don't change. :D

I have the same problem, my problem is that when I do try to finish a project I cut corners on buying what I need and try to fix something that really should be thrown away parts wise, because I need that money to work on or buy another project. So the end product is not building a really nice piece that will satisfy me, then I sell it for less than I wanted because I cut corners on not buying the nice parts that I really wanted when I started the project. Does that make sense to anyone?
I like others are trying to thin the herd out.

That's why it always puzzles me when I hear people talking about how they can't find a good deal on a project, or they get mad when someone won't sell them a car they know about. They're frickin' everywhere.

I was looking at a '52 Ford the other day, flathead that turns over, was running 10 years ago, guy wants $1000 for it, I'm thinking about where the money would come from, then I had to remind myself that I already have 2 of them that I don't drive and I'm not working on. Probably don't need another one just because it's a good deal.

I'm at least going to finish my '62 Chrysler this year, and at that pace, I've got enough to keep me busy for the next 20 years.

  17. Welcome to the old car hobby. It keeps stringing us along with the next great " fix ". Some people are into crack, we're into old cars. I'm with everyone else, love those continentals

I call it the "Goldfish Effect"...a goldfish will continue to grow until it reaches the size limits of its bowl. I reached my storage limits a long time ago...the wife actually was looking for a house with more acreage (there were some ulterior motives to this on her part) but I saw the space constraint as a good limiter on my auto acquisition addiction.

BTW - I am not too far from you...if you ever want to part with that Lincoln drop me a PM.

I think we all have it. As I drive home there's a 52 Ford Coupe with Flathead that is in pretty good shape(but still needs work) for sale for $1500. But I have to keep telling myself NO!, you need to finish the one your working on.
But I have picked up "really good deals" just because they were, and have been able to sell them for up to double what I paid for them, to help finance my other project. Last year it was a 23 Dodge roadster, and before that a 53 Plymouth.

It's good to know I'm with the same crowd. Birds of a feather... I really enjoy the hunt and hate dealing with selling stuff.
I also have reached my maximum capacity of space and they are even double deckered at my shop.
My thought is to sell the ones I'm never going to build and work on a 32 roadster.

It's that "clean sheet of paper" mindset that's so easy to do. I love a project car. I seem to be a little bit lost when I finish my own and that's part of my problem with my ****. I have 5 of em. All good stuff too. I'm getting closer to makin sparks and noise though. I'm beginning to miss driving around on nice cool summer evenings. That was always special to me to just go out and drive around in something kool. I'm always looking at stuff and there's so many smokin deals out there, it's really hard to look away.

This is the very reason I sold my trailer. But my dad retired from racing and I got to be the custodian of his trailer. The buying continued until I talked him into selling his trailer. NOW my good friend bought one heck of a nice trailer. He says I can use it anytime....damnit. I'll be horsetrading until the day I die. Back to craigslist!

when i saw the name of this thread, i had to pray a little in hopes that my brother had started it. he is that guy, the guy who cant p*** up a good deal, and loves the thrill of the hunt for a new rig! one of these days i'm certain we will finish one of them and he might decide to work harder on that end of things rather than looking for more cool old iron.

Please define "one of those guys"

  28. Exactly. The biggest problem is needing three cubic feet for the fish and having three cubic feet...........in 3 one cubit foot bowls.

Why not find someone that wants one of your other projects and trade it for work on the one you really want to keep? He's happy he got a car for sweat equity and your project gets a jump start, and maybe you make a new friend. Just a thought...
