Looking to get iden***y on this mid-1930s -looking artillery wheel 16" 4.5"x5, BUDD mfg. numbers imprinted reverse. Could it be Studebaker? Years & cars used with ? Thanks briggi
I sure they were used on cars too but a guy had a set of "BUDD" wheels that he got off a real old welding machine trailer and another set that came off a irrigation pump.
Dodge and Plymouth had some wheels that looked like that for sure ,but the bolt pattern looks too big. The Dodge and Plymouth pattern, if I remember right, was 5 on 4 1/2". Those wheels look like they could be a 5 on 5" pattern. That has me thinking maybe Buick or Olds. Trailer manufacturers generally used readily available production car wheels back then--several guys around here restore and show vintage campers that they pull behind their '50s and '60s vehicles, one of them told me that the early '60s Scotty camper he shows came originally with Ford wheels.
Yes the wheel originally came to me by way of a 1958 MARS mobile home purchased back in 1978. The farmer slapped 4 wheels he'd had laying around the barn onto the rig to get er rolling enough to move. One of the wheels was the above mentioned. No telling if the MARS company had it as original stock equipment.... probably more like luck of the draw. LowCat my wheel has 14 spokes not 13. 38fordpickup, Dodge is still in the running though their wheel lacks that hubcap retaining ring hotrod40, and coolbreeze, also thanks for the input.
Lowcat --- correction, I see that Stutz wheel also has 14 spokes. Ya that could be a match . So far Studebaker is closest match.
