Really picturesque vintage shot, real not PhotoShopped. Almost in that "Instant Classic" category, but it's a tad fuzzy. Shown, an auto after a sudden snow storm up at Crater Lake. The composition and light are great, and you just don't get to see the oldies all that often with all the side curtains present for bad weather.

Not Irene's aftermath, but might as well be. I hope all fellow HAMB'ers came through ok, with loved ones and homes intact. Oh, and vehicles too Our little state took a pounding but good people from near and far have worked around the clock to open destroyed roads and bridges, and restore power and water supplies. Never seen so many National Guard, on the ground and in the air, and never been more proud or grateful. Thanks one and all.

 

T-6, mighty glad you and yours are well, man. WHEN will the crazy weather of '11 return to anything like NORMAL? I've never seen a year like this. Rainiest spring I can remember, floods along the Mississippi, fires all over the Southwest and Cali, too, earthquakes, heatwaves, tropical storms and hurricanes. Have we had any days or weeks that could be called "seasonal"?

A Sharp Man with a Sharp Car!

 

Now, THAT is a news stand. There are papers from Kansas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, New Jersey, Milwaukee, Alabama and I'm sure others.

 

No static photo here! I'd put this forth for another in the INSTANT CLASSIC
file! Great early ACTION photo featuring what was ONCE state-of-the-art fire-
fighting equipment is THANKS to Dave Greenlees' great site, The OLD MOTOR.
Dave is T-Head on the HAMB, and his own site takes a fairly academic, yet en-
tertaining slant on early things with wheels. Any HAMBer can get lost for
hours there! Now, the newspaper pic below is a mystery, as to CITY and
YEAR. I'm guessing a northern city, about 1910-15?

 

I was thinking the same thing.

 

My grandfather was in the band in WWI and he still manged to get shot. On one particular surge through the line by the Germans everybody got a rifle and sent to the front. Same thing happened in WWII to my dad who was a radar technician. During the Battle of the Bugle everybody got a rifle (but he manged to not get shot).

 

Betty Skelton passed this week. RIP. She was 85 and really one of the first famous women drivers.

Thanks, Moe! Honestly, I was guessing Chicago, but about five years earlier. The interaction
