I got you, I had a curved glass cut in Orange Ca, in the late 90s for a 55. I didn't watch the old timer cut it, but he told me he burnt the laminate out in front of where he cut. It wound up with a small crack in the curve, that could have been fixed. BUT, the glass didn't fit because the radius changed. I went 3 inches down. I went into the deal knowing it was going to be lexan in the back.
The way my top was chopped my radius didn't change really. The C pillar angel didn't change. The roof was sectioned and stretched. Im going to be using a sand blaster to cut my glass.
Here are a couple of pics a couple of hours after I started playing. There is also a pic of my T-bird seats set inside the Merc. I wanted to get an idea of how well they will work. They back seat is a little narrow but I think I can make it work.
56_ford_custom...your still way ahead of me. Its going to take me forever to get my air ride done...but im going to get the body any paint done as quick as I can. I got the inner fenders, front shroud and the whole front clip taken apart today. Started stripping the inner fenders. Waiting on a cherry picker to get the engine pulled so I can start on the firewall.
I've had a lot going on the last couple of days so I haven't been able to work on the Merc. Lucky I have all day tomorrow to dedicate to her. I should have the motor and granny pulled tomorrow, engine on the stand. Then it will be back to working on the inner fenders and firewall.
I'm still waiting on a cherry picker so I can pull my engine. While im waiting on it I have taken the other inner fender apart and stripped the undercoating off of it. I also started restripping the Merc getting the surface rust of of her and startling the body work. If I still don't have a cherry picker by tomorrow I plan to start welding up all the trim holes in the body. I also found to large holes I need to repair in the drivers side rear quarter panel.
Its looking great! Man I love your car. It has a perfect chop and the stance just goes with it. What are you using to strip everything?
Today I got the engine pulled and completely tore apart. I will be taking the block, heads, Vally pan, and timing chain cover all to the machine shop to be hot tanked and cleaned. Tomorrow I plan to start on the firewall and welding up the trim holes in the body.
For some reason I can't get any pics to upload right now. Ill try at work tomorrow to get them to upload.
The ones I use go on a angel grinder. Hard disc on the back and blue mesh on the front. They run about 10 bucks a pop. But they are worth it.
Homedepot is where I normally get mine. Ill try and get some pics up today. Might be tomorrow before I can get the pics up.
Here are the pics form the others days updated. The 1st two pics are of the whole someone punched in my vavle cover. I think they tried to make a pvc vavle..they then stuck a wine cork in the whole to stop it up. I got the engine pulled and she came apart easily. All of her internals looked good with little to no wear. The only issue I seen was that several of the water passages where stopped up. I also included a couple of pics of my intake manifold plates sitting on the engine....Yesterday I spent the afternoon working out the details of how I want to make my intake. I have most of the details worked out and several templates already made. The top of the pistons had a lot of carbon build up on them...a quick hit with the stripping disc and the look great.
QQuick update. The block, heads, timing cover, valley pan and oil pan have all been dropped off for a good cleaning. Im also having the block honed. This will be my last update for about a week. I have to go to Ft Jackson for a week of training.
IIm back from Ft Jackson. Got my block and engine parts back and gave them a coat of ford grey paint. Tomorrow im going to start polishing the chamber on the heads a little and do a little more cleaning on some of the water passages. I also picked up the tubing to make my dual log intake. I will start fabrication on it soon and will probably start a thread for that project. I will upload a couple of pics tomorrow.
Sounds like a plan kage. I have my car on a stand still. I have to finish up my f100 first so that I can bring it home.
