CopperBandit, Which wheelbase donor truck did you use?
Did you find the swap pretty easy or on the difficult side?
I have my 41 Chevy on an S10, but because I used a shortbed reg cab frame,
had to add 7 in to the frame, I found that eighties dodge frame rails
fit around the s10 rails perfectly. Still workin on mine.

Since having retirement forced upon me, I have had more time to play in the shop,
So I have been getting the body work situated on my 41 hot rod truck. The old grille from the 46 ton and a half cleaned up pretty nice.. a friend did the rear fenders, still have lots to do, but its good to get back to it.
I see the head inspector is checking up on my progress,,
good to have a best friend in the shop to keep me company.

Thanks toolman, Large truck fenders hang down 2 inches farther than stock half ton help with the look.

I have the opposite problem on the 49 F1, the one ton fenders have such a HUGE wheel opening that it looks ridiculous. I am solving the problem by attaching 47 Ford car front fenders to the trucks sheetmetal. A little grafting and it should look pretty good and I will get the body line that the trucks missed out on but the cars received.

gman....fantastic build!!!! I noticed in your pic links that you relocated your fuel tank to thre rear, can you elaborate on what kind of fuel tank you used and where you purchased it?

Paintman27, I moved my fuel tank also and I used a Buick Regal tank and used the stock style straps to hang the tank from the original crossmembers. I just shortened the filler and it hides under the bed rails.I think any tank that would fit between the frame rails.

I dont know if this is pertinent to your question or what you are working on but I thought I would give my insights in case it could help.

  18. It's been awhile since I've posted anything on here, my business has kept me real busy this year. Not enough time to spend on the trucks, have been pecking away slowly.
Crusty #1 update: Finally got the cylinder head repaired after hurting a valve, and bending a push rod, only took me a year to do that. Drove it to the Saturday night Cruise in @ the XXX.
    grille of my dreams.jpg

Crusty #2 washed the dirt off , filled the tank with gas and haul ass. Yesterday, we took it to the Snoqualmie Rail Road Days Car Show put on by the Legends Car Club. Great car show, with lots of sunshine, people, music, and cameras. That's my 41 with the small tractor in the back.
This picture is from the Rebel Riot Car Show in Tacoma a few weeks ago. Yes, I get around on my days off, I call them sanity breaks.

Crusty #3 I have to run some battery cables, and get a couple of exhaust pipes made and I can drive it on and off the trailer, and display it @ The Rat Bastard's Infestation Car Show @ the XXX Rootbeer on Aug 28th.

I ordered it from Chevy of the 40's, they were out of stock on the steel tank so I settled for the poly. I believe it was for a 48 chevy car.

So what broke? Keeper? What engine?

  22. This is on a small block Chevy 350. The problem was, that I wore the side off the valve stem above the keeper from a misaligned rocker arm. We replaced the valve, put screw in studs, one fresh push rod and two rocker arms.
The holes in the head, where the push rod come thru, are elongated from wear and tear, and won't hold the push rod/rocker arm in alignment. What I did to correct the problem, was to put MARINE ENGINE rocker arms on. These rockers have little ribs that guide off the top of the valve stems. Worked great.

  23. The fix worked so good, that my son Brian and I took all three Crusty Cruisers to the Rat Bastard's Infestation Car Show @ the XXX Rootbeer on Sunday. Crusty #2 won an award for Best Farm Truck.

  25. Assuming the front clip is original to the cab.....

Grill is chrome and the running lights are small glassed and one-piece housing, it's a mid-late-1946. Early '46 still had painted grills and chrome grill '41s had 2-piece running light housings (kinda like the '40 Poncho car's).

Front clip is not from this cab.

One thing I did notice that there are no bolt holes on the lower front part of this cab to attach the fenders? I find this strange as the cab I did remove the clip from was attached at the lower front of the cab. (the other cab was beyond saving, roof crushed and so forth).

Looks like the rear window of the cab has a trim piece, should have screws going from inside to that trim piece, if so, thats a 41 cab, not sure why there wouldnt be any fender mounting holes,, were they welded up? every cab I've ever seen had 3 holes for fender mounting.

just took these pix... does not appear that the holes had been welded - from inside view I see all stock metal.

    does the firewall give clues?

has this heater - maybe this help date the cab?

    thanks.
