  3. Anytime you advertize something for sale you get a few flakey would be customers. I sold parts here on the hamb cl***ifieds. For the most part they where smooth even steven transactions both party,s satified. however once when I was selling a parital stromberg 84 carb. Immediately after posting the add with pictures a guy phoned his girlfriend would send a money order first thing in the morning. Payment never came so I contacted him and his response was first thing in the morning. I told him the deal was off and sold it to the next hamber no h***les. Had a similar experience with the sale of a 5 bolt 260-289 C4 bellhousing. Ive sold a V12 flathead, flathead 6, 53-56 ford hubs&drums, 52 car hubs & drums. a 52 chev coupe decklid, numerious wheels and all where great customers. The guy who wanted the hub bearings & drum from the 52 1 1/2 ton chevy Ive still got it packaged and ready to ship. Ive been awating payment for more than a year? Its all good in the end OldWolf

all I know is douche bags come out of the wood work, when they think they can afford something or want something they cant have.

Have you ever looked at an item, then chose not to buy it?
Have you ever sold an item then not called vback all who had contacted you?
These are questions I ask myself when faced with the situation you describe.

Craigslist is free....you get what you pay for.

I use it all the time and take the good with the bad.

same here with my 54, everyone wants it, but never calls, or ask me questions that are clearly on the add, (does it run) (does it have a back gl***) So I finally put "if you cant finish this car yourself or PAY someone to finish it, this car is not for you", the emails dropped after that, now I have 2 buyers intersted

Here's a better posting for those who put up with Craigslist clowns.."if you don't give me what I'm asking, I'm going to smash it and throw it away".

Selling stuff is a PITA. That is probably why I have so much of it. I am a much better buyer than seller. The other thing I worry about is who is coming to my house to look. There is a certain amount of trust involved when you buy or sell on the HAMB or ebay and I would usually prefer that over having some unknown ?? come to my house.
Unfortunately the days of driving a hundred or two miles to pick up a part are over.

I had an excellent lower firewall for a '29 A listed ridicously cheap and a guy contacted me like he would have drove here (Colorado) from Florida he needed it so bad. I went so far as taking it to the USPS to get exact shipping. Emailed him back, waited a week, sold it to the next guy.

Remember when you had to phone or write in the ad for the item you wanted to sell to be listed in a newspaper or club newsletter and it would take a week or more to get listed? We are lucky to have online cl***ified services that are usually free of charge and enable you to list something and have it sold in less than a day. And now you are reaching car guys all across the continent, not just in your local area.
You can sell ice to an eskimo if you price it right.

I did have a friend in South Dakota who sold some "genuine South Dakota tumbleweed" on EBAY. I think someone in the southeast bought it.

  15. For Craigslist: Write one of those angry ads that makes it sound like you'll strangle somebody if they come to look at your car but don't buy it, are a lowballer, etc., etc.

Yep and it isn't bought or sold until the money changes hands. One of my friends has a bad habit of making deals for cars and parts and taking forever to pay for them. I keep telling him that he hasn't "bought' them until they are paid for and sitting in his back yard.

Back to the original subject of the thread I think there are a number of people out there who's hobby centers around going out and looking at cars for sale and never buying one. Those guys have no intent of buying but are always showing up or wanting to see what you have for sale.

You also have those who don't read and comprehend the add you post. I advertised a 55 Chevy two door post in the local little nickle a few years ago for 350.00 and stated that it had no engine or trans and no interior. I had at least two people show up and get upset because they couldn't get in it and drive it home.

On the other hand there have been too many times I have driven over a hundred miles one way with cash in my pocket to buy a car and the damned thing wasn't even close to be what it was advertised as.

"Have you ever looked at an item, then chose not to buy it?"
I never tell anyone that I'm going to buy something over the phone or email. I tell them I'm interested & I'd like to come take a look at it. If it's a long distance I ask for more pictures & then make a decision. But once I say I'm buying something "NO" I do not back out of it. If I find later down the road I don't need it or want it anymore I resell it. If I go to look at something & don't like it I tell them its not for me & I bid them a good day and leave. I don't make them promises that I will be back with the money.

"Have you ever sold an item then not called vback all who had contacted you?" "Absolutely" Why the hell would I call all those people back? To rub their nose in the fact that they lost out on a deal? That's just idiotic! And to be honest makes no sense to me at all. Maybe you could waste your time like that but not me. Unless it was one of those "Call me if you sell it" Because the guy is trying to come up with the funds. But that would be on a very rare occasion.
"These are questions I ask myself when faced with the situation you describe." I just don't have time to ponder things like this. Money talks & ******** walks. The older I get the more precious my time gets and the less tolerance I have idiots, *****s, *****s, losers, jerks, ***holes, slow drivers, bad drivers, tire kickers, & well....most of the general public. Fortunately I don't get this much with true car people. Sorry for the rant. Just been a rash of this stuff lately.

The economy has nothing to do with it. Good or bad economy, there's no shortage of B.S. dreamers out there who "wish" they had a car, or the money to buy one.

I once had a '57 Coupe de Ville for sale. A flake came by with his girlfriend, spent a loooonnnnng time looking it over, squatted down, staring at it. He said, "I'll take it." Then he got in his pickup with girlfriend and I never saw him again. Of course, as soon as he drove off, I knew I'd never see him again. I sold the Caddy to a good friend who did a stunning restoration.

I don't waste the time of people selling items on craigslist or anywhere else unless I have the money and am ready to buy.

I had my roadster up for sale or possible trade out here in No Cal for about 5 days on CL. I got three seperate calls saying they all wanted it, had cash and were coming to buy.......Yeah right, money talks! All I can say is the so called "car guys" on CL need to all stop acting like female genatillia, step up be a man, dont text like 13 year olds girls, dont ask 10,000 questions over email, and handle business!!! If you say you have $13,000 cash too spend and your serious, then it shouldnt be an issue to drive your happy *** to someone house to physically look at it! I wont ever try to sell a car on CL again. **** that!:):)

Most if the people on CL that sell stuff are just a waste of time mostly . I want to buy something and send them a reply and tell them I WANT TO BUY IT ! I don't hear back and 2 weeks later there's the ad up again . So I do the same thing and guess what . I still don't get a reply . Some must just have nothing better to do than waste our time ! Then you have the ones that want to come and buy something . You set up a time and NO SHOW ! I sent them an email and ask whats up . They might email you back then expect you to just wait around for them forever . I just don't get it . Are people just getting to be total ***holes all the sudden or is thins something new when you want to buy or sell something ? You figure they are selling things because they need the money and when I have the money to buy it , I can't get them to reply to me so I can come and give them good hard cash for the item !
Like they say " YOU JUST CAN'T FIX STUPID" !!!

That all depends. If someone (who hasn't even seen the item) makes a ridiculous offer via e-mail, I usually don't respond. There are plenty of people who don't want to buy, but are more than willing to let you give them your **** for free.

Here's a new one; C.W. Moss on ebay puts up a set of 33/34 ford headlights with built in signals for $165 no reserve. I bid on it & it went to $178. I tried to bid at the last second but my computer was slow to the punch & I lost. So I emailed them and said make a second chance offer and I'll buy a set. This is their response...

    <table width="100%" border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="3"><tbody><tr><td>Hello
We have no more inventory for this price.

    - c.w.mossautopartsinc
    </td><td valign="top" width="185">Click "respond" to reply through Messages, or go to your email to reply<table width="100%" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td>[IMG]</td></tr></tbody></table>[IMG]

</td></tr></tbody></table>WTF??? They have more up for sale. All I could figure is they wanted to see what the market will bring?

    But then I see this!

    <table cl***="li" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td cl***="pic p140 lt">[IMG]</td><td cl***="dtl">1933/34 FORD S/STEEL H/LAMPS (HALOGEN+T/SIGN&#8203;AL) 12VOLT
    Item: 270625159008
    Returns: Accepted within 14 days

    </td><td cl***="trs">
    </td><td cl***="prc g-b">$331.20</td><td cl***="pay">[IMG]</td><td cl***="bids bin1">Buy It Now</td><td cl***="tme rt">Time left:9d 3h 28m</td></tr></tbody></table>
Now they don't know this but; I'm a guy that is building a 34 ford and I'm determined to get it done buy summer. I have to buy a ton of parts. As far as I'm concerned they just lost a customer. Anyone else had a bad experience with C.W. Moss???

A few years back I had a '46 Chevy truck listed for sale in the local trader (free paper, free ads, no pics). A guy and 2 of his buddies drove nearly 60 miles one way to look at it. After about 45 minutes of them hemming and hawing I asked if they thought they were interested in buying it or not.

The guy says "Oh no, I just saw your ad in the paper and couldn't remember what a '46 looked like to so we came up to see it."
