Ok to start off I am currently deployed in Afghanistan and had my wife pic me up a 1984 xj6 front end for my 1951 Ford F1 but when she sent me some pictures I noticed that the rack mount was bent up pretty bad but from the rest of the pics it looks ok. I will be home in a few weeks for my R&R to look at it in person, but is there some way to really tell if its ok to use if i fix the bracket. Or if i should just junk it and find another I try to attach pics but im not that good with this stuff

  2. An easy fix by the look of it.
    Good choice by the way.

I'm with LIFESTYLZ, the mounts are easy to repair. I've just had an XJ6 front end fitted to my '36. Well worth the effort.

How is the track width compared to the stock ford set-up?

  7. I am putting a 86 Jag IFS in my 53 GMC pickup. My front end looks exactly the same as yours, but not bent flange. That is an easy fix, just straighten it out.

The IFS mounted easily to the GMC frame, I welded it in solid. Only thing you need to do is make up the upper shock mounts, the rest is all contained in the subframe you have. I also used the Jag IRS as I had the complete 86 donor car and decided to use it.

  8. After you set up your ride height just fit the front cross member in so it is dead level front to back. eg sit a small level on it and check bubble is centred. All your camber etc will automatically be correct. So simple.

Piece of cake to fix with a hammer and dolly, maybe a BFH and a SFH to dress it up.

Good choice on front suspension. It's built like a tank. Thanks for your service!

  11. As the others have said , really easy repair and you wont regret swapping the jag IFS into your pickup , I run one under my '53 ( 10,000 miles now since fitting it) and have fitted several under other early cars n pickups .

In case you wants to go with another frontend, here is a tip =)

My brother has a ´51 F1 and he has a c4 corvette front end on it, It was a realy easy fit. As I remember we took out somewere like 1/4 inch on the inside of the framerails and the corvette frontend were in place.

I checked the front clip in my Jag (83 Sovereign) and it has 2 deg caster.

That's how it's gonna end up in my Dodge.

Thanks for your service TheSaint, keep safe mate:)

It's wider but as I'm only running 5' smoothies with 165 - 15 tires it clears the fender lip ok (with a whisker of negative camber). If I go ahead & drop the front a bit more I might need to move the wheel centers a little. A front end from an "S" type Jag is narrower but harder to find.

well Im glad everyone agrees to the easy fix! gonna start ordering some replacement parts soon I.E ball joints, bushings. Then when I get home go find me a nice 8.8" out of an explorer for the rear. Now just gotta figure out what eng/tran combo to throw in there. I was thinking 302/T5. looking to keep this truck under 12k
