I'm literally SICK after reading the latest stolen car alert. There have been some great ideas over the past few years regarding hidden cell phones (with GPS activated), lojack, and others.

Is it time to load 10 enclosed trailers with armed citizens and drive them to a high-profile car show? I'm not talking about vigilante justice, I'm talking about apprehending a thief committing a crime in the process.

I know I'd spend a night in a trailer to help catch one of these ***holes.

Then again, one of you would probably fart and snore all night and the rest of us would have to evacuate!

That's especially funny with your signature line!

Oh I don't go anywhere without my .40, but I dread the day I may have to use it!

I have installed a lot of alarm/remote start/gps tracker systems. They're not too complicated and very small, but unless they're well hidden they're worthless. Under the dash doesn't count. It takes stealth and a battery back up to do any good. Plus, if you have remote start and it's not hidden, you just made your car 1000x easier to hot wire, alarm or no alarm.

They have systems that were designed for locating kids. The unit is the size of a key fob and can be hidden anywhere. You can use a lap top to find your vehicle in real time.

Any ideas on how to pre-screen sting operation participants? I don't mind being holed up in trailer overnight with other firearm-wielding hot-rodding Americans, but I don't want to be wrapped up in something bad because one person was trigger happy.

    Thoughts?

lo-jack is very small.....about the size of a pack of cigarettes.....2 wires, no marking, draws car battery power until that is cut. Battery is said to last 4 weeks while transmitting......hope I never have to use the one in my car

John, rethink that post. I'm sure you don't want the rest of the world knowing what you're using... KWIM?

i have a question, does coming on here and telling the whole world what anti theft system you have, help or hurt the odds of having your car stolen?

  15. Groucho,
It should be whatever the range of a satilite is. They use GPS location so it should be infinite. We use GPS location on my grandaughters phone and as long as there is cell service we are good, if no cell service or it gets shut off it shows the last known location. She is a good kid in a world of perverts.

    daddio,
From what I understand unless have something wrong with you you really don't want to experience using your .40, they will just move into your head, with an extended lease.

    Budd,
If I were a thief it would just let me know what I had to do so you couldn't find it.

Pretty drastic. Like my buddy just told me in regards to the security guard, "not worth his life, but a 911 call could've helped". Yep, agreed.

A few guys in a hotel room for a car show(?) yeah, I can deal. Cramped up in a trailer with pizza gas and weapons(?) probably not.

also, i'm sure a bunch of guys eatting pizza and drinking beer sitting in a trailer would be able to keep silent, untill the strippers arived.

I'll just use C4 as sound deadener in the body with a remote detonator...I hear it makes a car quieter than lizard skin or Dynamat.....'till the boom.....

Okay, let's address this 'weapon's **** right now: 1) Depending on what state you're in, or came from, merely having it could land you in jail, let alone "brandishing" it (oh yeah, there's a charge for that too!) 2) If you think you're prepared to use it, you're not; unless you've already faced those demons, and if you have: 3) my guess is you wouldn't even be considering it, let alone advertizing it on the web.

  23. Its like I said they just move into your head. I suppose there is an infinate amount of room in someone's head, at least from some of the things I see ppsted on here there is a lot of room, but that space should be reserved for knowlege. I seriously think that a car is not worth taking on a new tenant.

This kind of thread is just chest pounding and sword rattling anyway. I do know that there are some on here that would go toe to toe with a thief, but they are few and far between. They are not going to tell anyone until after the fact. I certainly doubt that the Govt. takes any of this serious.

Regarding anti-theft, I have stuff. I have things, and I have insurance as well.
I keep it all about "fun with cars". If you have to stay up all night worrying about thieves, guess what - they stole from you already!

Great idea! Mine is insured...just gotta setup the other device ;)

  26. You actually should be more worried than I am. You at least have something that someone would want to own, I on the other hand don't have nice toys.

Now if you were twice as worried as I am you wouldn't be worried at all, on a scale of 1-10 I am @ zero, nuthin times 2 still equals nuthin. ;)

Where I live I am more worried about the little econo box that used to belong to Mom than I am about any of my old obsolete stuff.

IF a thief decides to steal it, it will be stolen. There are far more pro-active things to get through before it can be taken. Lo Jack is the last resort. I think I know where it is but have never looked for it. Even if you knew it was there, it would be a ***** to find it. Until something better comes aliong.......the unit will remain.

We've had SOOO many of these posts over the past year about anti-theft. I was thinking this was a fresh idea, and to throw it out there for criticism. Perfect! We got both positives and negatives on the subject, and it turned out to be NOT such a good idea.

I'm one of those people who carry a firearm in the event that I'll need it. Yes, I'm licensed and my firearms are all obtained legally and are registered. You could know me for years and never have any idea I carry, which is kind of the idea.

Please don't take my original comment as intent to sword rattle or stir someone else into action, as I only intended to throw out an idea for commentary. I brought up a very valid point in a follow-up post regarding the individuals volunteering and how to know they would be able to be trusted.

Another valid point is the laws that preside in each state. I don't know that setting up a "sting" with armed citizens in the intent to capture a would-be thief is legal in ANY state. Again, it was just an idea thrown out.

Regarding having a firearm and "being ready to use it", you're right. Rash decisions happen in the heat of the moment, usually bad. Whether that be hesitation or trigger happy, the result wouldn't be good.

My original thought was to catch the thief, armed for our own protection. This would likely get out of hand WAAAAY too quickly. Scratch the idea... someone come up with a better one please!

480V AC to the lock mechanism? :)

the problem at this point in the game, not enough of these theifs are getting killed for this. its becoming to dam easy

and any of you crying hearts out there think for one second these dirt bags are not packing heat, need to get a clue.

if you catch them and your not armed, you will be the one eating lead, and they will not think twice about how they "feel" about it
