Hot Rods Greatest Hot Rod Poster EVER.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Brootal, Sep 16, 2011.

  1. Alright all you clowns that are about to start uploading your version of what is the greatest hot rod poster ever.

There's no question mark at the end of the title to this thread, there's a FULL STOP.

While doing a bit of research for a story I'm doing on a '37 Ford Pickup (forever now known as a 'Rudy Truck') I was reminding myself of the impact that Rudy's truck had on the hot rodding scene back in the early 'noughties'. What I didn't realise was that Rudy had already been featured, and caused quite a stir apparently, when a '34 coupe he owned was featured in American Rodder back in 1991.

I didn't recall that car and a quick Google search didn't turn up anything either, so I turned to my trusty old collection of hot rod magazines. I've got a bunch, like most of you I imagine, but you know how it is, the one you want is always the one that is missing.

Well, not tonight baby. I dug out that gem of hot rodding history, the March 1991 issue of AR, found the article and read through it. Then when I was flicking through the rest of the magazine I stumbled across the centrespred (practically a CENTREFOLD!) and it all came flooding back to me.

I present to you the GREATEST HOT ROD POSTER EVER. No question.

'91 I was helping run a bunch of Iraqis out of a little bit of sandy beach called Kuwait. So any chick (no really, any chick) and any hair style would have been great  I think the poster represents my taste in what was cool that year though. I mean I turned 20 that year an ZZ Top's car was still the coolest thing ever ha ha. I can see having hung this up in my locker if I'd had it.

that car bucked the high dollar street rod trend back then. Its was an old hot rod with filled 1/4 windows and early Olds powered. Axle owned it for a while

  13. Yes, the new guys here don't understand the significance of that car and what it meant in the days of heartbeat graphics!

I'd rather see a photo of that car without the chicks. they have all the good parts covered up, so why bother.

Brootal Im with you great poster . I kinda miss American Rodder magazine. One thing about the 80's and the 90's they sure were not scared to put a picture of girl on a car in a magazine.

EEEERRR AAAAAhhhh.... T-Man is dead right! It is inconcievable to me that some of you guys are young enough to not remember when that poster was current. But what also escapes me is that allot of you guys seem to not go far enough back to remember when pastel paints and the first billet wheels were ALL you saw at events coast to coast. But I do realize that in the twenty years that has ensued, I have gone from a 26 year old "young gun" (SUPER rare in those days!!) to a 46 year old "greybeard" (well clear since I'm blonde). I'm just saying, unless you were there, you can't believe how significant that little coupe was! I hadn't seen a set of "pie crust" slicks in use on a car since I was a little kid in the late sixties. An Olds? Same deal! Just tons of turquiose and pink, toe the line and be like everybody else. I never thought that was the greatest car or poster, but would fight that it was one of the significant shots across the bow that has lead to what we enjoy today. Funny though, I still have the same Hot Rod in my driveway!
