Tman, here's how my nose came out. Alum, bent and tig'ed

with paint and on the salt.

So why the Detroit and not a spool?

  3. Cool, didnt know you built that car even!? My nose is very similar.

Locker? Because I have one! Talking to various folks from both camps I found out that if I find the Locker doesnt work I will need an open drive and vice versa, didnt hear much talk about a spool. I have teh same rear in my tudor so I will build both center sections and end up using the one that works.

I would love to talk salt with you some time?

I have run both a spool and open rear end with good results. I find the open rear more forgiving to chassis set up. I am pretty certain your locker will be about as good as it gets.

No no I did not do the body, the crew at Spitzer in Indy did it. I cant take credit for the sheetmetal they did amazing work. And had windtunnel work on it, so I know it works...
Yeah talk salt anytime, I am a ROOKIE with a capital R. Last year was my first year on the salt, first time to build a car for the salt, first time to drive on the salt. But I hear thats how it starts, one year then a lifetime!!!

  9. Amen, we are working everyday toward our goal. 2011 is a learning year, car will not be done but we will be there.

  11. Thanks Rich, the word of experience is reassuring:) I have another frankland for my Tudor and will set it up open, if needed I can trade em out!

Well, being new to it might help me, you havent developed any bad habits yet!:D

  12. Hey InDaShop! Can you get some front suspension pictures for me??????

Quick update and I will try and post some new pictures later. Jamie got the pinion support welded up, thanks man! And our very own Fab32, Frank sent a cool racecar rack and pinion that is narrow and the PERFECT width for our car!!!!! Thanks a TON Frank, you have no idea how sincerly humbled I am from your help! Welcome to the "team"

Tom, Dyce and I have started discussions on the engine, nothing firm yet, just talk and getting a feel for the project. Hey Dyce, Tom tell you found a turnkey machine shop for sale? We could have the stuff back there before you knoew it ;)

  13. Finally able to get some photos, had to toss a dead camera!

This is the rack we got from Fab32!

Got the wide 5 wheel centers for the rear, trying to find matching hoops with the extra inner safety bead like this one.

Jamies fine work on the blown pinion support!

Last but not least a cool go pedal made by our very own Kiwi Kev! thanks man, can't wait to fit it up and add the hinge and return strap!

Not sure how I've been missing this one. Hat's off to you Trent. I look forward to seeing the efforts hittin' the white stuff.

  15. Thanks Gary, call it a "mid life get off your ass". This car got me fired up to get back to work on House, Model A AND build that bike frame you are helping with!

  16. OOps, no pictures but I forgot that I picked some Goodyear rear tires from CharlieChops as well.

this is exciting. so cool to watch. maybe i'll build something for it someday too. once you've been, it's kinda hard not to think about it...

  18. Thanks Mark. I have an idea for you, shoot you a note on our board. Trent

  19. Great stuff . . . love seeing another 'grass roots' Bonneville project like this on the HAMB. If I wasn't so committed to the FlatCAD project, I'd try to lend a hand wherever I could. It must be the "water" in Colorado and the South Dakota area - lots of fun projects coming out of the Hills!

Keep up the great work and see yah on the Salt!

  20. I think it is the clean mountain air;)

  21. You have your plate full, I would be embarassed to ask! Who know however, we are light years behind you guys.

    Thanks for the encouragement!

  22. All right Trent, I thought you told me you had some more pix of progress. Where???

  23. Havent had enough computer time at home to download and post. Main rails are on the jig, don't look like much although it is a HUGE step. Hope to bend the shoulder hoop tomorrow and then will post them up. On the advice of several vets we have bee waiting to start the frame until AFTER Speedweek.

Timeline update, I did make it to the salt on a "recon" mission. mcTim put me to work, on the job training if you will. I can't think Tim enough for the chance. I learned more ver the long weekend helping him than I would in several trips on our own. Also thanks to BeefStew for letting me watch over his shoulder inspecting cars! On another note, lots of the design ideas that we have were validated after looking and asking others.

Here is my helper. This does not look like much but the camera angle does not show the taper of the rails well. A couple of evenings to get them jacked into shape. 12" at the front, 21" at the drivers shoulders and then tapering back together at the rear. Chassis will fit inside a 24" culvert. We did not get to the steel store today for tubing for the shoulder hoop, I am alone at work for a week and just did not have time! The MW chassis hanging from the rafters is donating its rear axle mount and maybe torsion tube.

  26. Awesome! You sure he's the helper... or the boss? ;-)
