Old electrical appliances used tar covered cloth wires be careful of FIRE.

 

I messed up a few weeks ago, a neighbor put one out for trash and I had no way to load it up. But they took the door off, legally you have to here, so who knows if it was unbolted or just broken. Round top Frigidaire circa 1950.

We still have in the basement though a 1942 Frigidaire, repainted black, that worked and was in use until it started to leak oil. It's older than my father by a couple years.

 

My 3 freebies.. They all work. Two ge's and a crosley.

 

Found and bought this running Kelvinator Model FM-R last week. I plan on painting it up and replacing the seal then stock it with beer.

Two friends, their dog and son, and my wife and i were staying in an old summer cottage that had an old Servel fridge in it. If the sickly boy had not started whining in the middle of the night about having a headache I'm sure we'd all be dead. I was about 30, and it was ALL I could do to force myself to move. I really just wanted to go to "sleep." 2 of us struggled and got the others and the dog outside on the rocks. Took a couple of days to feel OK.

 

I am about to start refinishing this fridge and am having a tough time finding parts. Go figure right? I need the round plastic disc piece that is behind the handle on the front of the fridge. Anyone know where to find old parts for these? I tried Google and didn't find anything.
Yes I know I replied to my own post , but it has the picture of the fridge and disk.

 

So is that why they run flawless 60 years later?

 

this is a great thread. now i want and older one than what's in my garage. the fridge out there was bought by my parents in 1967.

 

Alright so I'm at a loss here. I have my westinghouse in the kitchen and all that's keeping me from stocking it up is a new gasket. I have it all on and in place but I can't figure out how to join the corners. I tried PVC primer & cement and pliobond but neither is sticking to the vinyl. Any tips?

 

I thought I saw or read somewhere that there was some one updating the old refrigerators with modern components for genuine retro kitchens .

Oldschool : Use wet suit rubber cement from a local dive shop !

 

We picked up a 1956 Crosley for my son's garage, needs a little TLC but runs great!

 

My '58 GE Combination needs a new home...

Not to many dive shops in my area. I'm hoping the third time is the charm for the pliobond. It seems to be holding much better after cleaning it with the pvc primer which apparently is an activator for the pliobond. If it seems to have some strength tomorrow i might go over it with some caulk for vinyl windows...

 

I've been looking for and old fridge to turn into a tool cabinet but hadn't had any luck. I got my chance this Friday. A guy had one on a trailer going to the scrapyard. I plan on just spraying a clear coat on it and making a drawer at the bottom from scratch. I'm gonna gut the inside and make shelves and maybe line it with diamond plate.

Back on top. Old fridgerators just got a GM Made only by GM fridgerator Model#5850029 other #s on tag 42B.30618 need help identifying it ,really cool 26"X54" plugged it in & it works !!!! Any help appreciated

 

So I gutted the fridge to start taking measurements, don't know if I'm gonna use the original liner or build one from scratch since I'll lose a couple of inches on all four sides. I'm gonna spray some ospho on the inside to neutralize the rust and then roll some herculiner to help with the wobble after removing the insulation.
