I'm an old fashioned guy and the camera didn't come with a paper manual just a disc which I haven't bothered to look at. I did format the disc because it prompted me too. I set the resolution to 3m which is about halfway from 16 to the lowest. That's all I could figure out so far. I don't think GE really made that camera. I think it's rebranded.

    New bodywork.

Well, I'm ready to start on the apron, cowl and doors. I worked a tiny bit cleaning up some metal work but I had to head home. We want to go to a 9/11 ceremony at Habersham High School. The Governor and a military band will be there. Ya'll come!

Only that it will be brass and glass and be open on the top. Painting and assembly is top priority now.

I was doing bodywork on a rear fender of my F1 this last weekend, grumbling a little bit at the tediousness of it, and then remembered all the body work you have been doing on your car. Then I thought, Jeez at least I don't have to do all the work Jerry is doing! Lol. Thanks for the perspective check. By the way, body work sucks. Oh did I mention that body work sucks? :D Eli

    Primer

I prettied up the metal work on the aprons a bit then I sanded and metal prepped and sanded again. I did the same with the doors and the cowl. I finished up the wheels then shot everything with epoxy primer. Next I might paint the wheels red. Then I can reinstall them on the speedster and get it off the jack stands. Anyway you look at it there's more painting and priming to come.

    Girding

As a boy I dabbled in girding but father warned me I could go blind. Of course that didn't stop me. Today I prepped the wheel for their red paint. They're not perfect but I've found life is too short for perfection. Unless you're paying someone else to do the work. Since that's not the case, the wheels are good enough! I also sanded the doors and did a little bondo work on the cowl. And speaking of the cowl it's going to need about six more coats of primer before it's ready for red paint.

    It was horrible.

Now remember I know very little about paint. So I had the wheels all prepped and I thought: I'll practice painting on them because it's only the backside of the wheels and how hard can it be? I got out the instructions which said 4 parts paint, 2 parts reducer, 1 part hardener. I should mention I'm using single stage urethane. So I open the can and right away I notice the paint is way thinner than the acrylic I used to paint the frame. But what do I know? I mix up the paint in the recommended proportions and wow is this stuff really thin. But what do I know? Then I paint. I had to use very very light coats to keep from running and the finished product looked like crap. So here's what I want to know. Is urethane usually that thin? Did they mix it wrong? Do I not know what I'm doing--yes! I'll visit the store tomorrow and ask.

I checked on a few bulletin boards and guys are saying use it 4:1:1 or even 4:1. I knew something was fishy.

Shook it up in my old Hula Girl paint shaker, then stirred it too.

    Red paint

I sanded away all the runs and re-prepped the wheels. This time I only put a splash of reducer in. My Chinese paint gun was screwing up fan-wise but in spite of that the wheels came out pretty good. Pretty good except I think I got some contaminates from the hose, oil probably. Lesson: put a filter on the gun. I also had a little paint left over so sprayed the extra on one of the doors. When it dries I'll sand it with what? 1200? And give it a buff. If it wasn't for the contaminates and dust the paint would be good to go. This gives me confidence for painting the body.

    Jerry,

Do you now have a pair of red stained skivvies?

Be careful, that hardener makes some wicked fumes, much worse than the old enamels or lacquer.

    I'm back!

I drove to the auto paint store in the next town over today and got a nifty little run razor. This is a miniature plane that lets you plane off drips and dribbles so you don't have to sand all day. I also got a 3" buffing pad. The rest of the day I worked on my 1989 Trooper--bought new by my wife. 360K on it and the distributor died. Imagine! I've finally decided to part with it. 20K on the new engine. 10K on the new transmission. I know I should keep it but I need the money. Tomorrow I buff the wheels.

This photo set looks almost professional.

Well I haven't actually seen the photos up close. They might be out of focus. So I planed down the blobs I dabbed on to cover up the holes in the paint. Then I sanded, then I sanded, then I buffed. then I buffed. I think I actually like the pre buffing finish better but I don't like the dabs. This is a lot of trouble to go through for the back side of the wheels. Really it's practice for the body paint job. Crap I got the picture order out of whack. You'll have to figure it out, I'm not reloading. I need a break from bodywork. I think I'm going to start bolting pedals and stuff back on the chassis.

    Brake and shift levers

Before I can start reassembling the chassis I've got to paint the hand brake and shifter assembly. I got everything taken apart and found old Mr. rust--who never sleeps-- had chewed on a few pieces. This meant a little rebead blasting. That done I got everything hung up and ready to paint. I also got the wheel hardware ready to paint as well. Tomorrow I paint and then the reassembly starts.

    When will the painting end?

I painted more stuff today. I need to do some bodywork (if that's the right word) on the brake and shifter handles. I think I should paint them red too. Someone suggested black but I don't think that would be good. They were originally nickel plated but who can afford that? Tomorrow I'll smooth up the handles.

Close-plate them if you are in a fiddly mood. Thin brass or copper sheet beat to fit the shape, soldered and then polished.

Laced leather would be cool. If not on the handles, then somewhere.

Bull penis brake handle? You might have to rub Viagra on it to make it stiff enough. How about a stern mounted flag pole? The steering wheel is 19.5 outer diameter. BIG! Hey, bend the bull penis into a circle for the steering wheel!
