What year's the car? I recall that masks were made as prosthetic devices,
after surgeons had done their best for soldiers badly disfigured in World War I.
Don't KNOW if that's what applies to this chap:(, just throwing in an idea of a
    possible explanation. -- J

The kid behind the wheel is pale around the eyes as well.
I think they just took off driving goggles for the picture, leaving them with a patina of road dirt on the rest of their faces. Or maybe a tan.

  4. A little known fact about Joe E Brown ; he was born without any mouth at all. The surgeon asked his mother to specify how it should be fixed and she said from here to here but he thought she said from ear to ear.

That was a brilliant series. They remade it last year it was absolute rubbish.

The original was filmed in the village of Port Merion in Wales. The village was built in the 20's and 30's I think. It was designed by an artist, I can't remember his name, but he wanted something that looked Italian, all the buildings are about 3/4 size

  16. My favorite actress of all time: Myrna Loy...of course there's the "Thin Man" series with William Powell, but her performance in "The Best Years Of Our Lives" is stunning...highly recommended.

  17. You have very good taste indeed, my friend. Myrna Loy was one of the most beautiful women that Hollywood has ever produced. I've never seen a picture of her from when she was so young. I had to do a double take when I saw the name. Exquisite taste. I'm impressed. :D

Thanks to all who posted all those great old pics. Here's some of the ones I've saved which hopefully haven't been posted here yet. Some of the people in them may look familiar.... ;)

Here's one for the vintage kitchen follower... Behind every HAMBer, there's a good cook! Any idea what she's working on? Cookies? Stuffed mushrooms?

That shot of Raquel is tremendous!

The shot of the certain fatal wreck is another matter. I had the misfortune to come up on a very similar wreck twenty five years ago, same type car even. A double fatality, the images and what went on that night haunt me to this day. I wonder how many other H.A.M.B. viewers get reminded of horrific memories from the horrible wrecks that often get posted on here?

It's been a couple days since I posted and even missed the infamous/unnecessary Chryco bump so here are a few to ponder.

Entertainer, Actress. Born Margaret Yvonne Teresa Reed, she joined her parents’ vaudeville act at three years old. The singer, dancer, actress, comedienne performed on Broadway, in movies and on television. Beginning in 1942, she entertained American troops through World War II, Korea and Viet Nam. For nine years she made trips to Viet Nam, sometimes staying up to six months at a time and often using her training as a nurse to help with the wounded. She was made an honorary member of the Special Forces units that she often assisted and received her Green Beret and title of Lieutenant Colonel from President Lyndon Johnson. Outside the State Theater in Anderson, SC. March, 1941. That's my Mom in the center of the shot of the 3 girls. She was 19 at the time.
