Max cut the roof overhang off closer to the length needed & put some time in on fabing the windshield chanel. It is a z chanel formed using the shrinker, stretcher, hammer & dolly.

The upper windshield header is being totally hand fabed due to the roof change so the top is being built double strength to help in the roof support.

Trying to work with a broken windshield is a pain in the rear, we needed a windshield for fitting purposes to make all the Chanel's & I did not want the owner to have to fork out $350. for a new one, cut it then be using it with all the fitting, welding & grinding going on, so we made a template windshield to play with. We work with steel all day every day but making a steel or aluminum template would of taken some time with all the compound curves in the glass. We decided to just whip one up in glass as in fiberglass. Its cheaper over all then making it in metal due to the hrs.
So here is what we did. First we blocked the old broken but chopped windshield to shape. Next we covered it with house hold tin foil, wax paper will work also & taped it tight. Next we put down 2 layers of fiberglass matt then a layer of fiberglass cloth.

Next we will add some wood for a back bone & strength. Then we will have a strong template to do all of our build stuff with & a great template to size for when we cut the final windshield.

Max is back on the box side & tail gate this week, its sorta hard to see where all the small dents & dings were but quite a bit of time was spent today hammer, dolly & shrink disc them out.
The hinges were soaked in the molasses tank over the weekend then painted on the inner areas with por15.

Ron I knew what they are off of I just did not mention it as some on here get piss when its not a traditional rod, where I am trying to show how we do things in the shop & quality. Its a double cab.

  13. I mentioned it so the uninformed would get some info on what they are. Really nice work and who cares what the part is. Its the process of saving something old.

I have to build a couple of Ames grill a 1916 & a 1922. There are only 18 Ames body ed cars known to exist of the original approximately 17,000 built between 1915 & 1923.
Here is the 1916 grill I need to reproduce the owner needs another grill to put his second 1916 together.

    DSCN8351.JPG
    DSCN8352.JPG
First I made a contour gage of the lower accent section.
    DSCN8374.JPG
I laid out the guide line on some 18 gage ak steel.
    DSCN8375.JPG
Next I pre stretched the area to be beaded or joggled.
    DSCN8376.JPG
    The pre stretched section.
    DSCN8377.JPG
Then I set up the bead roller to start the guide line.
    DSCN8378.JPG
Due to the depth & sharpness of the contours I needed to make some dies for the pullmax to finish the final depth of the bead or as our friends across the pond call it joggle.
    DSCN8369.JPG
The panel has more warpage the I like so that fix is next.

We are using the fiberglass template for fit.
    DSCN8386 (Small).JPG
Sections of the old rubber were used for alignment spacers.
    DSCN8389 (Small).JPG
A filler piece was made to fill in the old 2 dr Dodge door post upper closer area.
    DSCN8409 (Small).JPG
    DSCN8414 (Small).JPG
The front outer header panel is starting to get worked out to make the now chopped Dodge roof graft & flow into the lines we are looking for in this custom project.
    DSCN8423 (Small).jpg
    DSCN8426 (Small).jpg
Things are starting to flow together.
    DSCN8432 (Small).JPG
The rear glass was fiber glassed so we will have a rear glass template now.
    DSCN8437 (Small).JPG

Cadzook I just hate wasting my time & Ryan's internet space if not many are interested in what we do. We are trying to turn out real nice quality work and its tough to keep posting with little interest. I do think the owner is jazzed about what is going on & that is my first priority quality customer work second is keeping my help focused & progressing on the project's at present the second is easy, we like the projects in the shop & coming in just my 2 cents worth. We do have a couple of more waiting to come in but I don't have the room or the people with the skills to just say go for it here is what I need done, so stay tuned same chanel.
