Lately i've been struggling with this: It seems to be working nice,i made some test pieces: so i hope i'll get something "reasonable" done soon.
Thanks guys! Here is some more about the struggle: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=622910
Thanks man! I havent made any updates for a while, but that doesnt mean that i havent done anything. I'll try to post an update soon
Here is a little update: Finally i got the trunk pan fabbing started. The corner pieces were a bit tricky to do,but i wanted to get some practise with the shrinker/stretcher.I havent used that tool actually never, that was a first shrinking/stretching job in this project. Too bad that i am out of sheetmetal again,i think i am able to pick up more at the end of the week.. Well,i guess i can do the tank surrounding pieces from the left over sheetmetal pieces i have.
Looking great. Looks like you got the hang of the shrinker/stretcher. I was at Harbor Freight last week, but didn't get one. Saving my pennies for a compressor first. Tool collecting is addictive... like guitars, helmets, speed parts, etc etc...
Thanks! Yeah,i had fun with the shrinker/stretcher at last weekend.I think thats my way to have fun at nowadays.I know that tool +other stuff collecting addiction Maybe i'll pop in HF too at next march on my Florida vacation... Anyway,my bro knows that tool perversion too,he picked up a compressor at last weekend. Its made in 50's for industrial use, weights 300 kgs and produces 1000l air per minute. Its a really lo-tech machine, but it works like a clock. I think 500-600 litre air production is enough for the air powered tools. Well,my bro is more twisted with the tools than i am
Looks good Finn . Hopefully you can finish up the trunk soon . But then again whats the rush , Winter is on its way . Damn ! Later..., Andy...
Thanks! Yeah,i guess that the trunk wont be an issue. But after that i have still sheetmetal stuff waiting for me.Both quarterpanels needs some attention. Then there is the trunk lid,doors...Sounds like an endless list. Winters sucks, but only good thing is that i have a lot of time to mess with my projects. Here is a quick update: I did the tank surroundings from leftover pieces,i guess its getting to look like a trunk floor again.
Thanks, neighbors! Looks like that i am done with this week, but i hope i get something done at next week.
I did some homework on hamb what to do with the factory body tar. There was a mention about the modified air chicel bit. I sacrificed one crappy chisel bit, modified it and it really works.Damn this forum is an awesome place!
I just finished reading your entire thread, Finn Man........I am so impressed with your fabricating/welding skills.........you Scandinavians really know how to get it done! Great work! I may give up welding... CB
Thanks for your comment, Well,we have a lot of talented guys in here, who really knows how to their job and build really beautiful cars and bikes. But me...Well,i guess i know something about metalwork but i dont think that i am a wizard of welding, sultan of sheetmetal or anything like that.I still have lot to learn, after past 15 yrs i've messed with bikes and cars.I guess no one will be never too old to learn anything new,its just a personal choice are you willing to And now, back to the garage.I hope i got something done soon..
Well, you know its not far away,so you are welcome. At last night i got drivers side fenderwell welded, that was a kind of a pain in the ass and the passengers side is waiting for me... That's what is going on at the moment, but i want to get both of them done before i post any pics.
This is a 11.5" wide blank fender for motorcycle builders. Nope,my plan is not to ruin my shovelhead with a really wide rear tire.I dont give a rats ass for that who's got the biggest rear tire in his Harley-pissing contest. It could been easier to buy 2 blank fenders for this job,but i didnt want to spend another 100 bucks for a thing i thought i wont never buy.So i split it with an anglegrinder. It was a kind of pain in the ass to do,but now i have the fenderwells fixed: I did a same mistake than some bike builders do,i bought a too wide rear fender I had to get it a bit narrower, but thats why i have an anglegrinder. I think i'll do something else next than sheetmetal stuff,i need a small break for hammering and welding...
As min van, Magnus from Vallda, Sweden says: *Measure once, cut twice!*........but, really nice use of that fender to solve your inner fenderwell problem........ ...and what are you doing up so late?? ;^) CB
Well,my weekends are usually like this, stay up late, work with projects or something.Just a bad habit, but that way i got more done than on the middle of the week..
Thanks for the idea Finn as I to need some serious wheel well work and that bike fender might be the ticket for me as well .
You are welcome. That my way was the hardest way to do it.I think it could be a lot easier to do it by two blank fenders and get rid off the old ones. That fender i used was a 18 gauge steel,so i think its perfect for that use. Few yrs ago i bought a copy of a 34-36' Fords sparetire cover for my shovel for a rear fender purpose. That was a really thick stuff. It could be a real hell to modifyi something like that for the fenderwell.. Thanks! And say thanks for your wife too
