Man, you are moving right along - the truck is looking primo man, just primo. I may "borrow" you tan frame idea - it will work well for my 40 p-up project I think. I might even use it on the running boards. We'll see ..... you are really lighting a fire up my butt to get back on my 40 project. I just need to straighten out my roadster issues and then I'm on it with a vengeance! Yep, the 40 p-up IS one of the best looking trucks ever built IMO - they are just so "elegantly tough" looking ....
Thanks guys! One of the main reasons for doing this thread is to light some fires, including my own. Can't wait for the day to cruise Boi Angeles. Now back out to the shop for some more fun!
I was reading the build simply because it is awesome. Thanks for the tip on the Lime works detent kit. I have been looking at doing that with my own column and that will save me some monster headaches. Viva la HAMB.
Looking good! I love the detail on the nailhead with finned valley cover and valve covers. Keep up the good work and glad we could help you out. Andy Hells Gate Hot Rods
Man that motor looks sweet! Hope you don't mind, but I saved the pic for a screensaver. I could look at that all day long! Good work man!
It's time to start on the bed. I bought a new bed kit and sub frame. I have worked on it some and have it all planned out. A friend had a 40 frame he was using for a body dolly. I figured if I borrowed it I could put my bed together and not have to worry about welding on my powder coated frame and keep everything square.
Great looking project! I am also building a nailhead powered truck. We are even painting our block copper
Today’s progress photos. The doors are painted and I brought the hood home to it's forever home.
still love the angled louvers. now finish it because I want to see it all together (I know you run your projects about what other people want lol) looking good
I don't know why but I have always enjoyed wiring. First couple cars I built my own system. I tried a kit on my coupe but never again will I buy one that has all black wires and they were only labeled about every 3'. The under-dash looks like a mess in the pickup but these new labeled systems are great. I used the EZ wire kit on this one and it is labeled about every 6”.
I mounted the Buick power steering pump to see what kind of issues I would have with fender clearances. Yup, major problem. I found that Allen Grove made the brackets that would do the job for me. It uses the GM type II pump from a Caviler. I want the system to look somewhat stock so I ordered a pump with the fluid chamber mounted to the pump rather than going to a remote unit. The pump does not come with a pulley so I had to order that from AG as well. I got the parts in and spent about an hour trying to figure out it's mounting. The pump mounting holes were at 12 and 6 o-clock and needed to be at 3 and 9. Looking into their brochures a little more I found that I needed their reservoir that mounted the fill to the top. Another $65 for a piece of plastic.
