I like the Boop car better without the wings. I am proud to see Maynard put his name on this great car and that I am not the only Boop that enjoys open wheel racing. I’m sure Maynard is a relative but not sure how many grandfathers we share. I’m also glad to see it in a museum where it belongs.

    I agree.

Is the hood aluminum? I remember Lee building alot of metal bodywork in the 80's and some of it was pretty strange looking.

Hey fella's.. I might have mentioned this before on here, but I'm doing it again cause WE STILL NEED ONE! My dad needs a 16" Weld front wheel just like the one above. Circa late 70's and 80's. 6" - 8" wide will work. Trying to complet a set of 4 for a car.

    Thanks,

    Great Pictures again Dave!

How many of you went to Hershey? I drug home a set of Halibrands (16x5 big windows) and a big bell in-out box. Even found a Speedway water pump.

That hood is like the ones they were putting on the dirt cars and if I remember right Oz was gone and Ron McMahon was running it.

Went there for the fist time for "Fan Appreciation Night", and the announcer was referring to "the big turn", "the kink" and "the short turn", no numbers.
    Definitely a unique race track.

I think one of the main problems I have with roll cages - especially bolt on - is the lack of style. The sprint cars - at least they used to - have beautiful curves, sweeps, style, pride in the appearance of the body. Even the upholstery was styled to fit the car. Most front and rear nerf bars were stylized to the owner - sort of a trademark or signature. Those incredible grills, round noses, sweeping hoods, wrap around curved wind screen, curved cockpit sides, and a tail you could recognize from a mile away. This much creativity forced the painter to do his best. And then they bolted on a square box roll cage, upside down. I realize the main function was safety, but no effort towards style ever took hold. Sprint cars used to be both functional and beautiful. Now, they're just functional - squre boxes with slap on decals with the only resemblence of a sprint car being the little midget tail stuck on the back. The action is still exciting, but the beauty and pride in the car is gone. But, its the same in other things as well: homes, personal vehicles, hand tools, furniture, etc. Now, people try to buy pride. "The one with the most toys wins?" Bullshit. The one who has created by hand the most beautiful toy wins - and so does everyone who sees it. Let's back up to 1969 and take the proper steps towards sprint car safety, but in a much more creative way.
