Are you looking to buy this thing, or what?? I honestly don't get the question, unless you are trying to establish the value of the car. Nobody could tell you with 100% accuracy if the car is original / unmolested through photographs. You should also post the VIN and trim tag information if you are truly worried that the car is "fake". Just put X's where the production number would be.

It is or it isn't original and REAL tin, based on actual production year of the body.
ANYTHING else, steel or whatever, is fake...no matter how exacting the build.

If it feels, sounds, smells and tastes like a '55 Chevy, it probably is...

The appraiser said those were original to Canadian builds but were also exported into the US for a different application/model.

So, you think the average member here is smarter and has more access to info about the car than a professional appraiser does?

So what are you actually asking in the original question in post 1 of the thread?

If the car actually came with that trim or did someone put it on?

It wasn't unheard of back then for someone to buy a base model car and then add upgrade trim after they bought it but that probably isn't likely in this case. As the guys said, Canadian cars of the exact same model often had small but noticeable differences from US cars.

Deluxe heater. I would expect the cheap heater on a low option USA car.

    Cheap heater has:
    cut-off valve under the hood
defrost/foot heat is a manual lever just above the transmission tunnel
single knob on dash--fan speed switch is all black with a stainless band.

I vote that it is probably the only car redone in the 70s that was done tastefully...

    And a beauty.

Oh, you had to ask that question. Now this here is FAKE. I know, its mine. But the pic also shows another way to tell fakes, what would a REAL one of these be doing at the top of a 12,000 ft pass in the rockies?

Tell me more what a flat black gasser is, I have never heard of such a car.

  16. I wouldnt think someone would pay 15k for a new '55 body then make a base model car out of it. Most of those fancy new bodies become street rods

so I think the question is about the side trim...
canadian 150's had the 210 "wagon" side trim.
usa 150's had no side trim at all.

business coupes had fixed rear windows and no rear seat, but not all 150's were business coupes, a 150 2 door sedan could come with roll down rear windows and a rear seat.

so yes that looks to be a "real" unrestored canadian 55 150.

i guess it really doesn't matter now, you should have asked before you bought it. or does that make too much sense?

Be careful, there was a scam years ago where guys were re badging and adding fake quarter panels to leater model 54 chevys and passing them off as Canadian 55's and they are worth half as much...good luck and do some looking around that car you may have been taken.......

Maybe so, but some times it's hard to separate the ones that know from the ones that think they know (sometimes me).

You're asking 'restoration' type questions on a hot rod / custom car forum. The focus here is (supposed to be) on modified cars.

While quite a few here may (or may not) be able to answer you, you'd be better off asking on http://www.trifive.com.

  27. I found a little more info on the Canadian '55 Chevys here.http://www.oldcarscanada.com/2011/01/1955-chevrolet.html

"Chevrolet fielded four models in the Spartan 150 Six series. The least expensive Chev on the market was the three-passenger business coupe with its $1,711 price tag. The two-door sedan carried a list price of $1,804; the four-door sedan cost $1,853 and the sober two-door station wagon sold for $2,185. Popping a V-8 mill under the hood hiked the final bill by a C-note. Interiors of the modest Canadian-built 150 series borrowed its dressier steering wheel from the American 210 models. Upholstery was cloth and vinyl and basic black rubber matting covered the floors. "

  28. I think we can put the trim question to rest with this photo. This is another Canadian 150 and it has the same short wagon style spear on the rear quarter panel.
There's no question the trim is real.
