So I buy this old 1936 Ford Cabriolet custom out of a garage falling down...UPDATED!!

I have know about this car for a couple years, it was not too far from my house. It is a 1936 Ford Cabriolet that has been stuck in this old garage for the better part of 40 years. The owner is a 87 year old man who started customizing it in the late 40's. He had sectioned it then and it probably looked pretty sharp. In 1951 he began "updating" the car widening the fenders and trying to make it look "Porsche" like. He got it about half done and stopped. It came with the stock front fenders and lights. He has a custom built nose for it that I have not gotten yet. In the 1951 pics below you can see it has that custom nose on it then.

This car is wierd. You first look at it and see a wreck. But you really start looking it. The chassis is a stock and very very nice 1936 frame with hydraulic brakes. The cowl (aside from sectioning) is also very nice. the floor is also very nice. The seat frame is in excellent shape. He says he has the interior, full top and side window frames that I need to get later...he said they were too burried to get now even though I tried. The stock rear fenders are mostly under the "new" quarters. With a shitty 5W body you could save this car either stock or keep it sectioned. I happen to know a guy with a beat 5W body

I dunno what I'm going to do with it. I also found out today that my daily driver has blown head gaskets, and I need to get another car before winter hits. So it may go down the road, time will tell. Anyways, here she is coming out of the shit hole we found her in. Yes, I am crazy.

Subaru. Cars not worth pulling the engine, putting a timing set (it needs bad) and head gaskets in to me. Come over and check this thing out, I need a new winter beater!

 

Looked pretty sharp in those old photos. Hopefully someone, if not yourself, can get it back to glory soon.

Fixing the head gasket on the daily might be a quicker project though. Might want to just tackle that first even if just a crap Subaru.

 

Does it need to be a four wheel drive? How about a rabit pick-up?

The car looks great considering it's been tucked away all those years. Thats a 49 Buick rear bumper on there. I just tracked one down for my current project.

It's a one day swap if you got a JDM pull out.....

edit: though now that I think of it, if it is anything like my uncle who lives in Idaho's winter Subaru.... it's probably not worth it....

Oh I know...I could do it but dunno if a totaled 98 outback with 200,000 miles is worth a 300.00 timing kit, probably a clutch, head gaskets and who knows what else. I rely on that car and I don't wanna just band aid it...I have wanted to get a newer one for a couple years that maybe it's time to ugrade

Chris - what the hell? How do you continue to find so many badass old cars? This thing looks neat! Since you seem to know where everything is up there, keep me in mind when you happen across a 36 3 window, or a willys pickup or coupe (37-42)
