Yep hi-cl*** ******s, lots of them, big bag of ******,too much bourbon, a video camera, a big smile and shaved **** and a ball bag in a mohican syle. Wake up 2 weeks later, wonder what the itch is,what the f**k happened, why the hard-on, whats on the hell is on tv and who bought the FED you have in the garage. Find enough money for a Mackers breakfast, dragging your nut sack behind you!
Save it, for something more important in the future. But if he's he'll bent on blowing it on a car, I'd by the nicest 72 or 73 Vette I could and have a little fun with it while watching it rise in value. Banks aren't giving us diddly for interest rates, but cl***ic Vettes keep rising in value.
Invest....If he doesn't know...Learn...Start by listening to Dave Ramsey.....My first house was 62k...Five houses later, the one I live in now is well over 7 figures....and close to being paid off...
Agreed! Lots of sage advice on what to do with his money as far as investments, but the guy has decided that he has extra money and knows what direction he wants to go with it. As long as he doesn't buy a new Jeep he will be okay.
I have had the same amount of cash before and I bought a duplex and 2 houses that I still have and rent out. It makes money, people always will need to rent a place, even in this economy. I was able to save more money quicker then bought more houses. I have flipped a few over the years then bought more. I'm 14 units strong now all paid for. Now I play with cars full time. That's what I would do with $30K If I was him.
I just love it when a good discussion about fantasy cars turns into an ugly thread about reality. Thirty thou is about the going rate for a nice older resto on a '30-'31 Ford roadster. That's where I'd be looking. -Dave
He should buy himself a nice used car and invest the rest in Gold and Guns. Everything thing eles is ********, the housing market is nowhere near done dropping, so he'll get a much better deal on a house in 2 years!
exwestracer: IMO, there is no such thing as "extra" money. Plan as far ahead as you want, but the bottom line is what you've done along the way... Bishop: I have had some crazy times, unbelievable stories in my life........ with no money. H.D.Thoreau: I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and **** out all the marrow of life... Steve Jobs: Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.
Sounds like he needs to buy Dave Ramsey's book since that is about the dumbest thing you can do with 30K.
Holy **** ****!!! I can't believe the rollercoaster ride this thread is. SOme of you are so negative and fatal in your outlook, maybe you should dump all of your cars and collectibles RIGHT NOW!!! Turn it into gold and silver, HELL YEAH! Then lose your ****in *** like everyone did several years back. All of that should be left out of this discussion. Looking to some "pros" like us who've ****ed with these things in different ways for our whole lives, well I thought that's what the OP was asking. I "invested" in my 1st car at 14. A 36 Buick tudor and my end was $100 that I worked my teenage *** off for. I got $400 back in 3 weeks. I was hooked. Screwed. Done. Afflicted. If I had what I have in my cars in a 401K a few years ago I'd be like the rest, cryin like a little ***** that someone took my lunch money. Now my cars are worth more than I paid for em. AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN, investing in cars IS NOT for everyone. Some can do it to feed their needs, some lose their *** in the blink of an eye. Keep the gold-real estate-college fund comment out of it...PLEASE. Too ****in serious. This place is a vacation. Or didn't you read todays TJJ...
get a reliable vehicle and put a down payment on a future whether that means an education or a home. rates and home prices are the lowest theyll ever get. you can get a home with property and outbuildings right now for pennies. As for the education, if he doesnt have one, a college degree is a must in todays society with no matter what you want to do with your life. no matter what you'll have a degree to your name and something to get you a good job. like someone else stated...hot rodding is a hobby. secure your future first
Highlander - well orginally i was just interested in knowing people dreams of what is that car you have wanted that you never got. but this has been very interesting to read.
not that i disagree the college degree. i have a ***ociates, a bacholars and i am almost finished with my masters. but there are alot of people out there with degrees now. especially at my company there are a lot of skilled and qualified people; which makes promotions very difficult to earn. but i do believe that it is important.
The new guy got got us! His original question is fairly clear " but the question i have. what really cool project would you get or finish with an extra 30K?"
first i would finish my willys (it will be mostly stock but few personalizations, then tear apart my 77 again mostly stock, but a few goodies. if there way any left...who knows
Coke, ****** and hot tub binge? No seriously- I would get my project on the road for that, paint, engine and interior,...cruise and be happy at what my investment had bough tme. It may not set me up in life, it may not make me a fortune in the long run - but the smile and sense of satisfaction it would give me would be worth well more than $30K.
X2 probably the best 2 non-car books I ever read. Just wish i had done that when I was 20 but kinda sounds like he already did ,and thats why he has 30k to blow.
