49's and 50's have the same rear window opening so switching from a 3 piece to a 1 piece should be no problem. I was under the impression that all 50's had a 1 piece rear window though, but I could be wrong.

    Welcome Peter,
Please don't change your 3 piece window. That rear window is one thing that makes the car look so cool.

Welcome fellow merc dood. You can get new gl*** and the surround stainless is the same unless its an early version of the stainless which is a little smaller and attaches differently.

    Thanks for welcoming!!!!!
Ok, most of you guys voted for the 3piece window. Maybe I have to
Think about it one more time. I'm building a custom car so right now I'm think that the 1piece window is more clean. I'm doing chopped roof, shaved doors, freched light etc etc.

howdy and welcome ,if you are chopping the car keep the 3 piece because the one piece has a more compound curve than a three piece and this shows up when you chop

it just gets more complicated, I know that not all one piece windows are the same but the 3 piece are straight through the bar area which usually helps the lines to flow.

Welcome aboard! Kool to see that you have been blessed to own a Merc. This is a good
place for kustoms. Good luck with the build.

I was told a few years ago that a few '50 Mercs got the three piece back gl*** because
they still had some left over. Don't know if it is true or not but it sounds good.

    Happy Trails, Mick

    Ok!
I was told that the 49-50 had 3 piece and the changes from 50 to 51 was to the 1 piece. But I don't know.

Se if I could add some pics at the Build. How do you add pics??

some late 49's had a 1 piece, some early 50's had a 3 piece. as Desotot said, the 49's are flat, which does help with the flow of a chop. some 50's have a pretty good crown in them, and other 50's barely any. it depends on which plant they were produced i was told. same with the 51's. i have a pretty flat 50 window on the shelf only has about an 1/8" of crown, its also clear, not green like most of them are..

Hello Peter. Yes the 1 and 3 piece will interchange. I personally like the looks of a 3 piece but booth can look very well. You need to decide if you are going to keep the flatter 3 piece or switch to a 1 piece with a slight bubble shape to it. If you go 1 piece be carefull as i have seen some repops that have alot of bubble to them. Once you decide on the gl*** you will know what profile to give to the chop so the flow with the gl*** is good. Here are some examples of booth

    Hi Peter!!

Nice to have you here on HAMB. A European Hamber.
Was in Sweden (Vesteras) from 7th to 9th of july this year. A real Big Meet with a lot of nice cars. It was a big party.

If you don`t go with the 3-piece window maybe we can make a deal??

    Have a good time.

    Christian
