Been looking for an early 60's Yellow Jacket Capri for years. Knew of a guy that had one on the lake near me when I was a kid. It had the rare optional double bubble windshield and a 60hp Merc.
Awesome little rocket.
There is family in town that has one salted away for 40 plus years in their garage but "It's not for sale."
Have a '59 Penn Yan now, 16 footer with a 35hp Johnson that my dad bought new but it's beyond rebuilding. I look at it for the memories only, then cry.
The Yellow Jacket is tops on my 'Bucket List' these days.

 

Posted on the other vintage boat thread but here it is again. My 1960 Glasspar G3 center deck model built in 59. Not sure if it was built here in WA but there was a Glasspar factory in Olympia that burned down years ago. Been in my family since the 70s sometime. My dad bought it from his brother in the 80s and repainted it and had got the trailer it is on now. Lots of fun and gets smiles from people who see me runnin across the bay in it.

 

I just picked up this homemade Hydroplane. Was built in MD in 1950. All original.

 

WOW does that look nice...any plans for it yet?

Since we're on this boat thing ,I've got to share this. 'bout 50 years ago my older brother and me were down by the river watching the boaters. I'm sure some of you are old enough to remember when merc had a inline 6 outboard that started either running forward or backward[for reverse] about'58or'59. so these 2 guys come in to the pier w/ 1 of those"finned" boats w/ the 6 cyl. merc on it,1 got out &put on a pair of skiis ,the other handed the tow rope &pushed off ,when he was out about 10' he hollered "are you ready, ski cat" , his buddy hollered "HIT IT" at which point, the driver did exactly that... at about 3/4 throttle, pulled the guy off the pier, out of his skiis, didn't hit the water for what like 20' , did a great impersonation of a sub for about another 100' ,when the pilot got the boat stopped & came back for "ski cat", we heard "damn man, Idon't think that's what you're supposed to do! IIRC that boat had fins.

 

I was looking up something else, and stumbled across the Macatawa Bay Boat Works. They build a repop '30s runabout called the "Century Thunderbolt", with your choice of antique or modern power. Damn, but I want one!

Just got this one. It's a '56-'59 Barracuda. 20' all 'glass. It was abandoned at a cemetery. Very nice amateur refinish. Better than pic seems. Found pics of 2 restored ones on-line. The original Y-block motor and complete drive got scrapped just for the crankshaft! It's missing the dash gauge panel and dash emblem and windshield uprights, too. I thought to hot-rod it, but I heard it's pretty rare, so, I think I'll try to sell it to a restorer first. I'm not really into boats anyway. Exorcism included free,,,,,,,,,

i have a 1959/60 Redfish- looks just like the one posted on page 1, except this one needs a complete restoration. I bought it as a "someday" project. For sale cheap if anyone's looking for one.

That is a beautiful boat but if they got it up to 50mph on Bartlett Lake it was a short trip.

 

So, 3 years ago We bought our home in Miami which
happens to be on a canal. Black Creek canal to be exact.





The search was on for a vintage boat to go with our home
and vehicles. My father found a barn kept '63 Renken with
a '63, 40hp Johnson and trailer, all for $200. It took about
6 months to get it down from Atlanta and another year to
get around to getting it sea worthy. This is the story.

This is the day it landed in my driveway, as you can see my
thunderbird was still under construction. It has been done
and on the road for over a year now.





This is what's left of the ID tag.





Then we moved it to the back where it sat for another year.
I spent that year looking for a mechanic, to no avail. I then
decided to just educate myself and get this thing running
on my own. I spent a few months with wiring, steering cabels
and a carb problem that kicked my ass, but alas I won.










Took 2 weeks just to break this bastard loose.








Eventually it ran






Next onto the floor. What we started with...

Meanwhile Gloria was busy with the dirty work.

I forgot to snap pics of rebuilding the subfloor
but here is the finished product.

The seats and steering wheel were all beat up.
So some fiberglass and paint was in order.






4th of July weekend rolled around and I lost patience.
Boat was launched with much success.






Now we were on to the cosmetic stuff.
Seats and steering wheel done.

ok found this trailor boat , 1960 with a 59 golden jubilee mtr, sweet and fun then of course i found a 1960ish g3 glass par that followed me home dam it think im gonna dump the g3 but it so dam cool shit shit shit,, oh yea our booze boat too

I've been tinkering with the Evinrude and got it to fire up for the 1st time in 25 years last weekend. (Rebuilt carb, replaced fuel system, replaced all the ignition stuff) Still needs work before it can hit the water, but its getting there.

And yeah, I gotta polish the aluminum pretty badly. I read somewhere on the Interwebs that these boats were built using aluminum from WW2 aircraft that they were scrapping here in Orlando.

 

1958 Glass Magic Playmaster, needs just a little tlc.
Hope to have it useable by Spring 2012. Need to figure out color combo.

If anyone has a old parts boat in Northern Illinois, I need steering, controls and engine- please let me know. Thanks Dave
