Projects the '27 Roadster saga

It's an NOS Hollywood tag light I've had laying around go a while

 

Paul, the dash looks awesome. Keep up the good work!

 

I wondered what you've up to lately.

 

Work has taken most of my time and energy.
Progress is very slow
but the little roadster is almost ready to blow apart for final assembly.

 

Lookin good Paul.....nice call on the gauge cluster......

 

spent about five minutes on the car Saturday,
chopped the aftermarket stanchions and mocked them in place with tape.
ordered a new lower windshield frame today...
been looking for some original Ford parts for over a year, missed out on a nice complete set, it was way out of my poor ass price range, or so I thought at the time.
the new stuff ended up costing almost as much.

 

This car is really neat. Real cool profile, I'm liking the cars that sit a little higher lately.

I'm working on a 29 AV8 Phaeton that I'm thinking of chopping about 2 inches but not sure how it would look in the back (also cut down around 2 inches).

That is one fine looking buggy!

 

lower windshield frame came Friday,
so I cut a few glass patterns out of cardboard
low with notches for caps,
high with notches,
high without notches with flat top
high without notches with arched top

chose the high flat top with notches,
cut another pattern, this time out of plexiglass
and rolled it outside

not sure if I like it yet,

may try something different today..

I like that one too. I know you didn't ask for suggestions, but what about a gentle curve to get it to the height you're after?

 

yup, 'was thinkin that very thing..

right now with where the seat is at the top of the glass is right about even with the top of my head

maybe a combination of the first and fourth pictures..

here it is with about an inch off the top and curved to kind of follow the arc of the dash

How tall are you BTW? I'm collecting data for my roadster project.

 

Man the hard work of making the simple look of Class

 

I'm about 5'-10",
it's a bit cramped in there but not as cramped as my other '27
this one sits on top of the frame

the other one is channeled 4"
and the cab is the front half of a touring,
about an inch shorter from dash to seat back panel than the roadster
'feels like I'm sitting in a bucket

 

Nice way to get a little more glass without the taller stantions.

I think your last version is the best compromise between looks and function.

Will you actually be looking through it, or over it?

 

If I'm looking straight ahead I'll be looking through it, eye level with the seat where it is is about an inch and a half below top of glass.
I do have room to lower the seat about one more inch.

 

Maybe not a consideration but are the notches going to add a fair chunk to the cost of cutting the glass?

I like it with the notches.
