Cool pictures! Was that an aluminum foil mask you wore?

Did flatheads share exhaust ports? I see three pipes and four plugs.

Can't understand why this one never took off :) I'll bet the first rock was an eye opener.

Or the first time the attendant had an unsteady hand, and poured gas all
down the fellas back, and soaked his suit.. That would ruin your day at the
    office.. ;)

The tracks here have been converted to a Rail Trail system. This line used to be called the Virginia Creeper and the converted trail uses the same name. I have cycled this trail many times and it is a beautiful place. The station still exists and is a popular place to stop for hikers and bicyclists. The line ran from Abingdon to Damascus, Virgina. Later it went to White Top, Virginia near the North Carolina border. Eventually it ended in what is now Todd, North Carolina. As far as I know the present Virginia Creeper Trail goes from White Top to Abingdon and does not go into North Carolina.

It looks like it was built from a old "Mull flexible shaft Grinder",... when that cable would stick in the sheathing,.. it would pull the grinder out of your hand,... and whip it around all over the place,.... Imagine what would happen if you were sailing along on these and that would happen !!!:eek::eek:

Actually,... that would be kind of fun to watch !:D:D:D

This is just painful to look at :( ....especially the '33 Packard Eight sedan (second up from the bottom, left side) like the one below:

There is another early '30s Packard in the pile...can you spot it?

Speaking of Packard, here is a photo of the Earl C. Anthony Packard showroom (left side of photo) in Oakland CA. Designed by Bernard Maybeck, it was a landmark on the shore of Lake Merritt until 1973, when it was torn down. I remember it as Herrera Buick, and remember playing in an Opel GT there in the early 70s. It was an amazing place to show off cars, and you can imagine those beautiful Packards in that space. Earl Anthony had a number of amazing showrooms in California, Los Angeles, San Francisco, still extant.

Plymouth VT? Could this have been taken on Aug 3, 1923 the day Calvin Coolidge took the oath of office after the sudden death of Warren G. Harding?

Yep !,... there is also a picture of a 1932 Packard 900 series shovel nose, in one of the piles,..... Here's another one that should make you kind of sick.

It IS painful to look at. I wonder about the "information" on the doors of the cars, if they were actually involved in accidents, or as a stunt, the accidents and locations were made up. Wouldn't surprise me.

A car identical to this has been run, or running, on the Market Street railway "streetcar museum" in San Francisco, I think since 1982. It's from Australia?

That does just make me cringe! :(

This looks like a 1930-31 Buick:

and the second Packard I had mentioned was in the same photo I commented on previously. Down in the lower left:

I have seen the other photo you mentioned....makes a car guy cry a bit inside doesn't it......makes you wish time travel was real and you had unlimited funds..

    "Yeah, I'll just take them all....here is a $1,000 dollars" :D

That's Fatty Arbuckle with his Pierce Arrow. The car still exists, and has a Don Lee body (Harley Earl).

I think I would be more concerned with the powerlines.

These are not Balboa or Newport Beach. Balboa and Newport are flat, no hills. My wife grew up there and I spent my summers there.
These look more like further South, possibly Laguna Beach.
