Anybody noticed the new Chevy TV ads that show old snapshots of people and their cars? Well, I pride myself on knowing my old cars, but can't figger out one of the pics in a new ad. The commercial is the one with a snap of a guy standing on the hood of his '64 Chevelle as a new car spins across the dry lakebed behind him. Then, a car or two later is a shot of a group of folks standing in front of a mid '30's fordor. I'd guess it's supposed to look like a '38 Chevy, but it's not (I swear). I think it looks kind of Mopar-ish. Anybody know where to get a screen shot of the commercial so we can figger out what it is?
Looks all the world like a '38 Chevy to me. I came home from the hospital in a '38 Chevy coupe after I was born. Frank
Well, we know from Terd Ferguson's post (his picture was used in the commercial), the images they used were manipulated. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=635162&highlight=world+series
It's a '38 Chevy. As for photoshopping...I'd guess it has been edited and/or modified in some way to make it stand out more promently. Literally every add out there now is generated either in whole or part in an image editing program of one kind or another.
I've had several 38 Chevs but something looks a bit off, is that chrome moulding? The shadow on the grill throws it off too but basically is a 38. Oh well, the commercial is for people who think they want to live in the past but are buying new Chevy's. Everyone nowadays is seeing the USA in a... KIA!?
Headlights are too small on the old pic, and look at the windwing frame. The old pic has a rounded top, where the real Chevy pic shows it flattens out a bit at the top. I think they took a pic of a Mopar and 'shopped a '38 Chevy grille and hood bird onto it. Humph! I'll never buy a new Chevy again! .
Most Madison Avenue ad guys think that no body knows what a 1938 Chevrolet looks like any way. Watch the **** tube for a few days and you'll realise that TV types don't think too much of the average car guy's intelligence.
This is the panel I was talking about: Also notice how upright the grille is on the "real" pic and its sloped back on the "vintage" pic...
Jeez, I think they did too, is it me, or can the split rear window be seen through the side? I also will never buy a new Chevy, nor any other new car for that matter
Something is screwed up for sure. It "resembles" a 38 Chevy but that's about it. I think it's been photo shopped.
Looks photoshopped to me. They might have changed it to "fuzzy it up" a little. Unless they're selling new 38 Chevys. Larry T
I like the first one shown in the tv add. I believe it's a 27 chevy coach? I never noticed the new cars in the add.
The headlight is probably ****eyed from those characters sitting on it rabbit hunting the night before. You can see the back end of the style line on the door beside the right pant leg of the kid in the plaid shirt. And taking a 60 year old print from a 5.00 camera and putting it on video may have distorted it just a bit in the process.
now im not sayin that you all a wrong. but i think people use to customize cars back then to...a possibility?
