I'm going with the not a Chevy crowd. look at the bumpers, look at the vent windows on the front doors, not to mention the messed up grille.

I don't think that actual old photos were used in the ads. they show someone holding the "old " photo and then have a new car in the same exact background when the picture is lowered.

give me 5 minutes in photochop and I could make that any 37-38 4 door you want.

EDIT: I stand corrected, they are old photos, I just went and looked at the video. so it is either customized or maybe the picture was flawed in that area and it was poorly photochopped.

kind of hypocritical to sing "America the beautiful" about a company that now builds cars in Canada and Mexico with a big amount of parts from China and japan.:(

  4. Given it looks to have a split rear window, maybe the pic they came up with was of a Pontiac, Buick or Olds and they adjusted it to make it less obvious. Dunno, not that worried about it, I buy Chevrolets but I have no intention of buying one newer than '94 anytime soon.

It's misleading cause it's "Government Motors" now and the Government lies.

Great observations...also is it me, or is that head light tipping up also ??
This would go along with the sloping of the grille..
    Cheers......

The front bumper looks like a 1936 Chevrolet Standard. I know nothing about Photoshop but I do understand used junkyard parts.

My dad's pickup picture (at 17 seconds in the commercial) was photoshopped by the ad agency. They added a front and back along with a background. But he didn't care. He thought it was awesome they wanted it and that they found it here.

The curvature of the rood makes me think the original phot was a coupe and they lengthened for the commercial. It slopes to much and to early to be a sedan.

I saw that same thing at a quick glance out of the corner of my eye the other night when I first saw the ad. I think it looks like a '39 Ford fordor with the Chevy nose photoshopped on. Look in the still photo at the side windows... too square to be a G.M. product. The headlights are too far up to be stock, and the grille seems to be pushed out forward a bit. The other tip off to Ford is the wheel where the guy is leaning looks to be a Ford wide five with a '39 deluxe cap.

My dad also came home from the hospital in a '38 Chevy. A Woodleaf Brown Metallic coupe that my grandfather bought pre-WWII, and my grandmother drove during.

I'd love to own one someday. I also agree that the image is probably photoshopped from a '38-'40 Ford Fordor.

What is different is the angle in which you are looking at it.

Consider the front face of the engine block as the "12 & 6" on a clock -
In the ad picture you are looking at the front from the 5PM position.
From the snap shot of the Antique auto you are looking at it from the 4PM position.

As for the headlight upward angle "look", the headlight is clearly loose as the lines in the gl*** are not horizontal.

It must be photo-shopped, or some other digital tomfoolery...or else that front door is only about a foot wide!

Look real close again at the door in the "vintage" pict... See the trim running above the door handles? Note the shape of the pssenger windwing. It is a gradual complete curve with no straight runs at all. Look at the shape of the rear door window... All '39 Deluxe Ford. The shape of the grill is slightly wrong too. It whips back more at the top like a '37 Ford unit. When I first saw the ad, I though "Zepher?!"

38 Chevy for sure.. Yes the grille looks slanted but also the car is facing up hill slightly.. This changes the angle shot of the car.. The headlight is a little off and could of got bent around.. Im building a 37 and Ive been around these cars and trucks and believe this is a 38 Chev..

The "Chevy" pickup used in the TV ad has a GMC grille.

it is 100% definitly not a 38 chevy.

it has 37 Ford bumpers on it. I say it is almost definitly maybe a 37 Ford.

look in the area of the wing window and side windows. Chevrolets have a much flatter top, and the front and rear door window openings are are much less curved. the top corner of the wing window has more of a curve than the Chevy.

it is a 38 grille, but poorly photochopped ... I don't know why they drew in a wierd headlight in the wrong place rather than just photochop the 38 headlight with it

If I were in charge, I would fire the guy who did that photo.

I would fire the ***** who did that photo, too.

Nothing about that "thing" is 38 Chevy, including the grille. Wrong shape, wrong number of thick bars in the wrong places. The headlight can't possibly be bent down that far unless it's mounted on an adjustable slide with a pivot, which they are not. It's ALL wrong in every detail.

For those who still believe it's a 38 Chevy, or any part of one, you may return to your previous position.

I find it funny that this car's been identified as either a Chevy, Ford or Mopar and a common complaint is that "all new cars look the same". Seems all old cars can look the same as well!

    Me? I think it's a 38 Chevy. I don't care, it's just a cool commercial.
