Black is a good color for coupes. However, have you considered putting a little mettallic plum in the clear?
I had a 47 Plymouth coupe that was painted with plum in the clear and was outstanding color combo.
It looks black until it catches the sunlight just right, then the plum mettallic slightly shows through.
It came from California on a trade and I liked that old car. Until it decided it wanted to be owned by a nice guy in Ohio.
anyway, the plum in the clear looked great on that car.
Just another opinion. Whats is one more, right?

Thanks for the input JimC. I have considered adding some additional colour to the black, but I'm going to stick to a plain black. The thought behind this is to keep it as simple/original as possible and not to create any distraction from the body lines. Thank you for your opinion.

Retreaded the holes in the pivot plates for the door so I can use stainless m8 bolts. Mounted the drivers side door and spent a good while adjusting it in place. The bottom half is perfect now, but as you can see, I'm going to have to rework the top half. First on the list though is the installation of the bear claw.

nice work so far. Are you going to be cutting the inner part of the door to bend it down to the right place? how are you planning to tackle it?

eric, what size brake booster are you using on your car and what was the reason? I've been thinking of getting that setup for my 40, but from looking at your pics it looks like it sticks out from under your dash, I thought it would be hidden more. I also want to keep my cowl vent operational. thanks for your input.

It is a 8 inch dual booster from a Corvette. The reason I'm using the under the dash/90 degree set up is that I want to keep the engine bay clean, and also, I have limited room there due to the whale of an engine. It appears that it sticks out a lot, but don't forget that the car is jacked up, so you see it better now. The gold will be painted black. When sitting in the car, you can't see it either.

I closed the cowl vent for two reasons: a clean look and the summers aren't as hot as in the US.

The initial idea was to cut the top half of the door and bring it up towards the roof, but I sat in the car last night and saw there is little room to move it up further on the inside. So the plan is now to align the top of the door with the roof (vertically) and then see how I can close the gap. I may weld a piece to the top of the door or bring the roof down lower. (or a combination of both.) I just want an even gap all the way around without ruining the lines. Hope this explains it.

Started on the bear claw installation on the driver door. It was another case of measure, cut, weld, grind and paint. Came out looking good. Going to position the bolt tomorrow, amongst other things.

    Looks great again!
I am messing with the bear claws at the moment too,but for the trunk lid because the lid must me closed before i can proceed..
I am going to put the striker bolt to the lid,so that should make that job more interesting:D

I bought a set of bear claws from this guy:

Really good quality stuff with very reasonable pricing.

Thanks Finnrodder. With regards to the trunk lid, I'm probably going to place a small bear claw in the trunk and some kind of "hook" on the lid itself. (I'll watch how you do it first.:D)
