Thanks for posting. Makes you wonder what happened to them.

I picked a '39 tudor that was a hot rod in Red Deer in the early '60s

They were taken by the draggins car club in the 60's? The club is from saskatoon SK, so I am assuming the pics are from there.

    Awesome. Thanks for the pics.

  17. Those are great Jay! The parade pics are downtown Saskatoon, there is a Draggins car show pic from the old Saskatoon Arena (they just had the 50th this year), a group of cars at the Grosvenor Park Mall (again in Saskatoon) and I believe the colour shot of the parade float is at the old Draggins club house.

It's funny you should start this thread now as I just this weekend picked up a January 1960 issue of CAR Speed and Style which had this coverage of a car show in Regina Saskatchewan put on by the Road Knights (are they still around?).

  18. A possible interesting aside is the MG pictured above as owned by Doug Feltham was won brand new in a jingle contest for (I believe) Brylcreem and ended up with small block Chevy power while Doug had it.

Cool stuff Dave. I wonder if that hemi powered rail was local because SIR only opened in 66 I think? This show coverage is also interesting and still fits the mold of saskatchewan car shows where people seldomly fix up vintage ford stuff, rather 20's buicks or chevy's....

  20. I don't know anything at all about that digger, but these shows drew from all over and it's possible it came from out of province or even the northern states?

If I trip over an old-timer I'll try to pick their brain.. :D

  21. Jay, if you look behind the deuce coupe in the centre of your arena car show pic there appears to be a competition rail with a surplus 'chute attached and draped from the rafters. This has to be a late '50s pic as well. These guys may have been using an air strip somewhere nearby..? Food for thought.

Resized it. I'll bet that '62 Pontiac was performance-optioned and that's why it was in the lineup.

Thanks for sharing and giving us a bit of hot rod history from your area.
I'd bet that with the poverty caps that Catalina had the full factory go fast setup under the hood. A guy tends to forget how good looking that the model of Plymouth next to it was/is when you don't see many of them anymore.

I was just thinking that. This was back before rust was invented and you could buy good virgin material to start with.:)

Did this thing not get a 283 in it in the late 50's? Ian Mcdonald told me about this thing being won in a contest. Had "Instant Rubber" written on the trunk lid??
