I used to do a lot of VW shows, and most of the really high quality cars got trailer in and out unitl they hit their 1st place limit ( usually 3 ). Then they would start driving them. I have also been in shows that you were REQUIRED to drive the car into in order to be allowed to compete. That led to a school parking lot abut a mile away from the show being full of trucks and trailers. LOL

When my buddy Rick Hanson went the entire show route with Black Widow 2, won best in cl*** at GNRS, and 3-1st in the rest, sold the trailer, put the car on the street, and up until his death this yr (4-30-11), he and I with my 28 flatback went everywhere, he also drove it in the Warrior's Watch and ******ed returning soldiers home from the airport, he put approx 10.000 on it

Some of the rat rods that I have see on the street and at Bonneville should be on a trailer. Who in their right mind would drive a car hundreds of miles with no floorboards with all of the crud that is on the highways coming up into your face. Forget about the heat from the exhaust pipes and the engine just the heat from the pavement in summer would be more than most people can endure over a long period of highway driving.

I put 4500 miles on the wood car this past summer. Lots of people tell me I'm nuts to take the risk. I wouldn't do it any other way. What I love best is p***ing rat rods on trailers.....makes me smile from ear to ear.

If i remember correctly and please do correct me if I am wrong, but in a rodders journal article there was a guy who owned a 58 impala that was never driven since the 60s, in fact I think it stated that he never has started the engine.he pushes the ride onto and off trailers.

ditch the paranoyia, the most any douche can say is f-off or no. the people who really build vehicles themselves are usually pretty cool about how they did what they did.

I have a friend that trailers because of wife ,dog and motorhome. He drives all the local stuff but trailers to the distant stuff. I am opposite those are the most fun. I have talked to some people at shows and ask "why the trailer" answers vary. Lots of times it's wife or kids. Sometimes health reasons. One guy didn't trust motor on hiway and didn't want to change it cause it was built in the day. Then there are just the plain old pussies that want to be!

Obviously. He built it as a show car EXCLUSIVELY. He's kept it like this for over fifty years. He lives in Long Beach, I believe. It was displayed at last year's GNRS....:) Different strokes.

JJ - if you had been at the Struggler's show in Austin yesterday, you'd have seen both Steve W's perfect '40 Mercury, and Lee Munz' amazing 58 Impala... both driven to the show.

I think that maybe the Mox Miller impala custom, everything all chrome to hell and back with a gorgeous blue panel paint job? Each to his own I guess. But it does seem to me owning a beautiful car and not driving it is a little like having Angelina Jolie as your f**k buddy then taking a vow of chas***y.
