About as relaxed as Marines ever get. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, leathernecks!
(Or, as German troops nicknamed them in 1918, "devildogs.") A Marine
friend once stated to me: "NOBODY wants to fight. But SOMEBODY had
    better know how!"

(BTW, I think the guy in the front-middle has a regular M-1 Garand carbine. Can you spot
the B.A.R. man and the sharpshooter with the '03 Springfield sniper rifle?)

I see a number of M-1 Garands,.. the most forward man has the Springfield 03-A3,.. the tall guy behind him looks to have the B.A.R. bandelaro,.. and the 4th. guy in from the right on the second row looks to have a M-1 Carbine.

Marine recruiting poster, thanks to Wikipedia and the WikiMedia Commons project. The "Devil Dog"
is an English Bulldog, the Marine mascot. And the "German" dog is, of course, a Dachshund with its
tail and Maltese Cross tucked. LOL. I think the correct translation was "Hounds From Hell." Ain't war
propaganda a hoot??? [BTW, Wikipedia is conducting its annual fund-raising campaign. Since we all
see material derived from Wiki, please help them, if you CAN in this crappy recession.]

I've seen pics of these tires in ads, never have seen them on a real car or truck though. They are solid rubber, with the holes to cushion the ride. Has anyone really seen them? Woops, I was too slow. I was talking about the tires in Andy's post.

Still an EXCELLENT post. Anybody know what span of years this was tried (drilled solid tires) and what company may have done it???

The Spirit of Freeport, a B 29 Superfortress, that the citizens of Freeport, in 1942, raised the money to pay for it by purchasing bonds. It saw service in both World War II and the Korean War. The crew referred to themselves as the "Freeport Kids."

No, not a DeSoto, Dodge, or Plymouth. It's a '41-48 Chrysler. The other 3 lines have different tailight designs. These are unique to Chryslers.

  17. I also agree that it is Chrysler, the bumper over-riders are also unique

This gas station saved my bacon when I ended up on top of nearby Breckenridge Mountain with an empty gas tank on my Kawasaki H1 Mach III (should never have taken that dirt road). Coasted forever down a Forest Service road on the backside to the "highway", then made it into Bodfish on fumes. Filled up here - and I was hell on wheels once again.

Just north of Cayucos, CA. Scuba dived north of there as a kid, hitchiked past it as a hippie, and it's still there today.
