Ah I've been waiting to see what you thought! Glad you like it! I'll be talking to you soon with details, and be in contact with everyone north of me on your end. Fred showed lots of interest at Eagle Field about the UFRA, so I know he is in!

Wow! What a memory rush! Grew up in Fontana. Remember Bradley's flathead dragster. Think he worked out of a muffler shop in San Bernardino. Next door neighbor had a flathead FED for a short while. Thanks for all the great pictures.

This is great post, I built two flathead dragsters in the 60's, didn't see either in your extensive collection of photos. If I knew how to use my scanner and post prictures here, I could show all the old cars. The last flathead car I built, Jim Busby, (Beach Boys-Smothers Brothers AFD) talked me out of it, he took it on tour to play with. I would like to locate it, I built an unusual front suspension on this car utilizing inclosed coil springs. Jim ran it for several years, sold it to one of the Jato-jet car guys who tired of it and I got it back. I ran it for a while until I got married and "no longer needed" it, sold it to a lawyer from Vegas and lost track of it. Any leads or pictures would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You Steve

The Big Inch of Miglizzi was one of my favorites at the etime. He was but one of maybe 2 or 3 guys flogging the Hillborns as opposed to Strombergs. The McLoskey anf Jordan car featured what was then state of the art jr fuel like construction. It occasionally ran a few of the bigger AHRA events at Lions wherein it was classified as E/FD

Joe Monahan ran J/Gas with the flattie powered Henry J. It ran low 14's. He owned a used car dealership in Pomona on Mission I think. I believe it was the former Airline Auto Sales lot, but dont quote me.

Brings back great memories. I crewed on Ed Houghton's dragster back when I was in high school. That news clipping might be the only pic I've seen of it in over thirty years.

I saw Houghton's car at the Winternationals in what 1970? I think that was the year that the NHRA offered a seperate class for the flatties, segregating them from the more modern inliners in D/D. The flatheads ran E/GD. Unfortunatley they dumped the class a year later. Not enough cars in the rest of the country to justify the class I guess.

YES! Thats exactly what we need! We would love to have the organization get cross country and have meets throughout the U.S.

So if you are out of California and interested in heading up a chapter, let me know and we can go from there!!!

A bit of a departure from the Antique Doll-very modern approach for the circuit. Do you recall any altereds that ran the UFRA? There have been one or two postings a of So-Cal based blue T bucket altered that ran a flattie. And I recall seeing a cool Fiat altered that featured an inj flathead. This was arounf 1971 or so.

Yeah, we won class that year, but the index in competition eliminator was about a second faster than our all-time best run, which meant we were easy pickings in the first round of the eliminator competition. Those were the days....

Soo cool that you are organizing a flathead racing association:)

We are not that many over here, but as i stated in an other post,
Good news for me, found another Flatdhead FED owner i Finland.
He is planning to run this FED at the same event as mine,
Soo 2 FED's with blown alcohol injected FLATHEADS with race
head to head in Skandinavia:eek:! How cool is that!?

Guys that would be amazing! We would love to have people head up chapters in other states! And then try to meet at as many races as possible!
