I'll start em up. You'll be happy to know that the '40 Altered took a more nostalgic turn

As close as my memory would let me get to the 55 I bought in 1962 for $495.00

Is that '55 an AMT or a Revell kit???

  4. I think thats the AMT Kit, isn't it??
Don't you wish you can still get a nice and tidy 55 for $495.00!!
    Good work!

rc57; The altered grabs my attention, I love building the chassis and roll bars in a build like that.:D

Dueces, Doc Watson is correct. It is the AMT #6771.
I have had it for quite a while, worked on it, then put it back and get it out again.
The model is not great, but the car had it's flaws, too!

clear Spot, your 55 is nice!

Nice work, guys! Excellent color on the '55, Clearspot. Works well with that wheel/tire combo. JimC, good job on the BelAir: get some foil on that trim and it'll look even better. I long for the days when we could get a good used '55 for $495! rc57, that '40 looks awesome in that color and I love the new direction and the fact that you're using the old AMT '40 for that build!

Here's a mockup of what's on my bench... my take on another old AMT kit, the Trophy series '32 5-Window using a $2 swap meet body. Corrected AMT's weird pie-sectioned body and channeled it the height of the frame on a chassis from AMT's deuce phaeton. Wheels and custom caps from an early issue AMT '36 Ford with front tires from a PMC '54 Nash promo and '56 vintage Johan tires on the back. Dropped front axle from AMT '34 pickup. Hop-up parts on an un-used flathead from another AMT deuce coupe. It's a little farther along now than these photos show, with a steering box and column topped by a four-spoke sprint car-type wheel and small air cleaners. Going for a late '40s - early '50s look.

Also my '59 T-bird is finally in primer and getting prepped for paint after a year and half from when I started it!...

Your right about it being not great.. :( when I opened my kit up, I got bummed real quick.. :(
Then I bought Revell's version.. I was very pleased when I opened that one up.. :D I also ended up buying the convertible version of that kit..
One of those is a skill level 3 Indy Pace Car kit.. :)

I'm working on a hippie hemi FED right now, no pics and no camera unfortunately. Can't decide if I want to use the body or throw it in the parts bin and scratch build one that I like better.

  15. Greetings model builder experts. I have a question. I want to remove the old enamel paint off of one of my models and I want to know what you guys do. I don't want to sand it off, mineral spirits (paint thinner) seems to weak and laquer thinner seems to harsh. Any ideas? Thanks.

  16. I use brake fluid myself. A lot of other people use a Castrol product. The name eludes me right now but I'm sure it will appear in this thread shortly.

Here is what is currently on my bench: AMT Chevy truck.
Chopped, rounded bed, roll pan with floating bars (still need to add one more), tuck and roll interior and few more tricks, I hope to have it done this week.

I love the Hudson, and its Red Ram. I have not kept up with what is available now of days. Who makes the Hudson? The plug wire covers painted red is just like my real Hemi. Those wire covers is what defines a real Hemi. People are always trying to get me to take them off,NO Way. Some day I will post pics of my show winning models from the 60's,I saved about 12 of them.

The hudson is a new release from Mobious models, it is a super nice kit! Jim

  25. I see you have one of those blue plastic cutting mats too. They work great don't they? Here's whats currently on mine. Mock up chopped Flintstone 34 sedan body on an AMT fender/frame combo.

    Great Stance,cavistyle!

  29. The Hemi in the Moebius Hudson came from an AMT '53 F-100 kit. The 6 carb setup is from Replicas & Miniatures Co. of Maryland. The headers are silver solder, drilled out on the ends.

  30. I seem to recall years ago using drain cleaner. Don't remember if I used the liquid stuff or the crystals mixed with water. At the time I think I was wanting to remve the chrome off some parts I wanted to paint, but it seems like it removed paint as well. Probably pretty similar to using oven cleaner which I've used to remove old lettering enamel.

This has been a while back so you should probably experiment on some scrap parts first. ;)
