What I found out about this image

CARS WERE JAMMED EVEN MORE THAN USUAL INTO EVERY SPARE SPACE AT A DOWNTOWN COMMERCIAL PARKING LOT DURING A BUS STRIKE IN WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, IN MAY, 1974. SOME 250,000 PEOPLE WERE FORCED TO FIND ALTERNATE FORMS OF TRANSPORTATION, USUALLY THE AUTOMOBILE. MONUMENTAL TRAFFIC JAMS RESULTED AS DRIVERS LEARNED THERE WERE MORE CARS THAN LEGAL PLACES TO PARK. AS A RESULT THEY USED BUS LANES, TRAFFIC "ISLANDS", "NO PARKING" ZONES, SIDEWALKS AND LAWNS

The '35 on the left of the pic appears to have an "x" in the cowl which I thought made it a '36, am I correct ?

 

I believe this shot of a Ford Dealership is most appropriate, especially since Ford recently won NHRA's 2011 Manufacturers Cup award... I've got three feisty Fords in my garage... My late aunt used to have a '69 Torino Gt like seen in the pic... I was just a little kid, but I do remember the car being pretty darn fast... She raced it on the street, and eventually took it to Old Bridge Township Raceway Park where she earned one of those coveted "Class Winner" stickers... Those were the days as they say...

No, My three sons. We had all gone to buy the tree in the coupe. I still have both cars.

 

Looks like a 70 Torino maybe 71 not a 69...

Woody, you made my day -- no, WEEK! -- with this great shot! This helps illustrate JUST what great material was sacrificed for the war effort. There weren't many hold-out like these folks. Most people supported the scrap drives. And, besides, some government agents could be pretty pushy, as well.

And would you look at these cars? Some of them are barely 10 years old!!!

Brian Lindner writes on 2009-02-26: "This was June 22, 1953. The plane was a C-47D serial number 43-16371. Captain N.H. Lebish thought he was landing in Lebanon, NH but mistakenly landed at an abandoned WWI airport in White River Junction. The plane was disassembled and removed."
