No shit. My local track runs a "Super Shifter" class. They allow lencos! WTF! A planetary trans is a planetary trans in my books. Putting a clutch in front of it doesnt make it a stick. Wonder if they'd let me run if I showed up with a clutchflite.
Wha wha wha, I guess he doesnt need to reply to that. He already knows. In regards to the transmission question, different strokes for different folks. For the street banging gears with a stick shift is fun, but people can win stop light battles with automatics. Its just a different world now.
My 31 will be running a left pedal. Doug Nash 5 speed, behind a 421 Pontiac. I would think 4 speed prices would be coming down, with everyone running Tremecs.
4 speed in my Biscayne....I just love the feel of the controlling when shifting, or how long to stay in one gear.....Just seems right.....But I didn't build mine for any reason except fun for me to drive.....millage, etc. was not a consideration..... Cheers.......
Just tell them them it's "Pro-Shifted" They'll get all teary eyed and leave you alone. Lost art of drag racing, sure...
Building a 40 Willys coupe, its was a tight fit to get the third pedal in but I can't imagine running an automatic. Using a M-20 muncie until it lets go. Dave
A younger friend is building a Model A.He's new at this so I gave him arebuilder 350 Chevy to use to make things easy.Other guys told him to use a TH350 tranny ............. I went into my secret stash of Muncie 4spds and put together one for for the cost of parts.
I will be starting my 1950 Ford gasser build next winter . It will have a 1970 Ford 429 with a ford 4 speed toploader close ratio trans with a 4.88 rear . I wanted a 4 spped because that is what was used back in the early 70's gassers ! I am trying to build a period correct gasser drag car so the 4 speed was a must have . I also have a Ford 4 speed toploader for a SBF also waiting for a car to be used in . Retro Jim
No fun if you can't powershift a stick trans. Auto trans DOES make a bracket car consistant without a lot of breakage though.
Took a bit of cipherin but I got it! 550h.p.with a Liberty faceplated TKO 600! That translates into put to the wood and start bangin gears!!! if yer arm don't hurt after a night at the races, yer not shiftin it right! They don't call me Redline fer nuttin!
460 + big-input Top-loader in my '37 coupe I'm building. We steer on the right here and I have a Lakewood bell-housing so I'll run a hydraulic clutch using the '37 pedal. (If I can!)
Not sure how many im gonna brake or how im gonna fit all this crap in here...But I will be running a muncie (probbably several) in my A pickup wth a blown and possibly injected early hemi....I may switch to a Doug Nash or something a little stronger later..."If it blows up with a 4 barrel go dual quads...If that blows up inject it...you have to fix it faster!....How far?...Intill its an automatic, which is boring." my fvorite quote from the movie "HOT ROD"
An update, I replaced the Hurst Comp Plus shifter in the coupe with a Hurst Ramrod. I LOVE this thing!!!
