C & O Willy's P/U featured a long history. After Gene Ciembella- AKA Gene Conway replaced it with the C&O Austin P/U, Gene Hicks raced it until 1969 in the AA/GS class. In 1969 Paul Day raced it in BB/GS and won class honors at Indy beating out nearly 20 other BB/GS cars. Alas, Day crashed the little truck somewhere at a track in Ohio. The Gunter coupe is still around and was rendered to street status by Gunter. It was orginally intended for that but it found more time on the strip with nitro fed SBC and BBC. The thing ran low 8's at 170 plus despite featuring the aerodynamics of a phonebooth.

After this happened a few too many times, some tracks started posting signs that said, "NO NEUTRAL STARTS."

  7. Chute pack bodies are way cool. Here's another shot of Dusty Rhodes from the Jan '67 Car Craft:

Is the front axle supposed to be up in the slot in the nose on the Tinker Toy?

Your's is a drawing, this is not.
Jere is a friend of mine. That's his photo of the moment of Pete Robinson's death at Pomona. I'll have him jump in here if that would make everyone happy.

My brother in law, taken maybe mid sixties. Taken at one of the washington tracks? Killed in a drunk driving head on late sixties. Bummer, I would have liked to have known him. This could be why I like 57's so much.

howard's accuracy in this drawing is truly amazing!

there's a lot going on in alhadeff's picture and howard captured all of it from all the crazy shit going on at the front of the car and the ground effects acting as a road grater to pete's helmet lifted up so high and the unequal size of the slicks.

    you do good work, howard!

Love this shot.....Not only for the competition coupe, but for the background. Looks like a Devin (?) next to the Corvette in the staging lanes...
