Has anybody got any info on Kong heads, history or specs.I have only ever seen a few pics on here but no info. Thanks
Tex Smith's The Complete Ford Flathead V8 Engine Manual has a nice write up and interview with the man. Wish I could afford a set just to look at now and then.
picture is from hershey this year...set was really nice...definately worth the $3200....but to build the rest of the motor to run those is going to run big $$$$
Some years ago at El Mirage I had just made a pass and got back to the pits. An old guy (relatively speaking) complete with those wrap around sun glasses came up to me and said "You a Road Runner?" As I am and was wearing a Road Runner T shirt I said "Must be. Says so on the shirt". He said "I knew all them sons of bitches in the 30s!" He then introduced himself as Kong Jackson. A really neat and interesting guy. He told me about a period I would like to have been in and the things he made etc. The chat was all too short. Regretfully he passed a few months later. Nice heads. Shame about the price.
a land speed racing friend of mine sent these pictures to me but for the life of me I can't remember what car this is, maybe someone here will know...
Kong heads were made for bonneville flatheads burning special fuels like alcohol and custom mixes. Kong jacksons brother is pete jackson of the jackson gear drive fame
Buy the ones on epay right now & save $$$$$. Just finish machining them.Could have a set for less than $1500 i'd bet.
lmao " Dont handle"...no kiddin. If they're 3200 they better not be fingered. Jesus. They look kool as hell though, although there's no way i'd pay 3200 for'em.
I have a set on my flathead that i purchased on egay back in 05 cost $ 1200 buy it now... so I snatched em up..
When Kong passed. There were several sets of unfinished heads in the shop. Not sure who ended up with them. But they are out there..
That was the last time he went to the track. You caught him on a good day. Its really cool to see all the stories about him on here. He is my grandpa. i really miss him
The last time I saw/talked to Mr. Jackson at El Mirage some years ago he told me he had copied the combustion chamber design after the Winfield "Red Head", the legendary Winfield banger head. Very nice guy. What ever happened to the narrowed Jocko liner?
I used to rent a house from a local guy who is a machinist guru and hot rodder/ hoarder haha and as i remember it he owned the patterns to cast new kong heads last time i heard him talk about them he had sold them to a guy who was supposedly going to start casting them and part of that deal was he got the first few sets.
I wish someone would take a picture of the other side so we could see the combustion chambers. Anyone have pics showing the combustion chambers?
Combustion chamber/piston pictures? I have heard that with a Kong head you run pistons with a dome and the head has large combustion chambers as opposed to grinding the block. Is that the case and how about some pics?
