It is not Milwaukee. It is downtown Pittsburgh PA looking down Grant St. The Federal Court House/Post Office is on the left and the Federal Building is on the right.

Its rare to see people from this era being anything but stoic. Despite a time when things were truly difficult, they had found a reason to laugh-good for them.

So I told Mr Demille, " Look I have mastered the use of both my oppossing thumbs, and thus should get more lines than Tarzan."

My 87 year old father in law told how when fighting in the Battle Of The Bulge, they received orders to get to the forest ASAP in order to secure an area before the Brits and the Russians. When they arrived, they found "the jets" abandoned sitting atop some flat bed trailers.

From D-Day onward, allied leaders knew that is was a footrace to reach Berlin before
the Nazis could bring various advanced weapons to full capability. But the allies had

a not-so-secret weapon: Adolph Hitler:p, a not particularly talented military strategist
who, seemingly, meddled in every single program, tying the hands of some very talen-
ted men! In my opinion, he (and Hermann Goring) get all the credit for underestimating
their enemy, underestimating long-term needs for fuel, war materiel and manpower,
spreading forces too thin by, basically, fighting five wars in one, missing opportunities,
blowing leads, destroying the loyalty of many in his command, and lots more. Lemme see
.... hmmm! What did I leave out? Oh, never mind. We won! Way ta go there, 'doplh,
    ol' pal! :D

Two-seater night fighter version of the Luftwaffe Me 262 jet fighter. The Me 262
night fighters were outfitted with FuG 218 Neptun radar and Hirschgeweih antenna.

Given full support in its earlier development, the Me 262 could have posed a
serious roadblock to the viability of the USAAF daylight bombing campaign. (U.S.
Army Air Force photo, shown here THANKS to LoneSentry.)

Funny in the old old days men wore suits every day. I once talked to a really old bartender in Vegas. His biggest issue was how in the old Vegas everybody dressed up to gamble. It was an event and you respected the casinos or you got a one way ride out to the desert . That old fart was very anti new Vegas . He felt there wasn't enough respect . He said hallowed grounds shouldn't be turned into a tourist attraction.

  22. Bill Thomas is credited with building or having built somewhere between 6 and 10 of them.

Originally he intended them as sporty car racers with Corvette independent rear suspension and fuel injected small blocks, but a few of them ended up with the 1963 mystery motors and went drag racing.

Google } Bill Thomas Fastback { and you'll come up with more of the story.

from John Prine's "Grandpa was a carpenter"

"Grandpa wore his suit to dinner
    nearly every day
    no particular reason
    he just dressed that way"

  28. Of all the material I've read and films I've seen of the German war effort I have not seen much about the amazing production of war materiel, especially during the final months when industrial centers were being bombed senseless. The working conditions must have been next to impossible. And yet some of the most innovative stuff came from the efforts of those determined yet demoralized people during that time.
