I'm looking buying this 47 Hearse (like I need another project), but as I study the lines on this car it appears that a roof slant may be the best option? I'm open to discussion and any experience with a hearse chop? This is a complete car in great shape......considering.
looks like fun. The roof is very tall above the glass, so you'd need to slice it too. And look inside, is there wood structure in the back? that was pretty common on conversions...they used the old coachbuilding techniques. Note the lead seams on the roof and quarter.
nah man, leave it as is, dont chop her up, maybe just restore her, or maybe custom grill tailights, optional wheel covers, etc total mild custom, but for the most part leave the body completely as a hearse
Unless you really know what you're doing, or know someone, leave it alone. Not enough Hearses left in the first place. Too many screwed up projects in wrecking yards because someone thought they had a great idea.
either way slanting or chopping you better have a lot of patience and time. The supports in the roof should be metal not wood so that would help some. GOOD LUCK!!
it would be cool to make it a 2 door delivery remove the center doors and panel the sides leave the back door
If you know someone with the skills, then: -Take out the crown -Chop -Section I don't see it with a slant, but that's just me.
Look at the distance from the belt line to the rocker panel in the right picture. It looks monsterous now. If you chop the top it will be even more out proportion. Then you will have to section it. JMO
I've always LOVED old Hearses! I wouldn't chop it...OR slant it! There's just not very many of the pre 1960 Hearses around. It would be a shame to mess it up. There's a Hearse Club, here in SoCal. Mostly 60's ones, but a few 50's ones too.
Hey, if you like the hearse, buy it, take care of any major rust issues, get it running and driving. Then you can look into making some mods; but I think you will find it looks best as built. Too many projects get started in the wrong order and are doomed from the get go.
man dont put the blade to that thing.i dont know your skill level but let me say that ive seen ALOT of good rides destroyed because someone started something then found out they may be in over their head or they just get bored because of all the work invovled.and they are getting alot harder to find that are worth building.please just do a little customizing to her and drive the piss out of it but leave the body intact.ive been wanting one forever but i cant find one that is worth the time and effort.most have been really rusted up and the frames are gone because they sat in the dirt for yrs. buy it and get it running and have fun.
