Since this thread popped back up...Here's a shot of my Merc at Paso last week. You can see from my first pic on this post how much work I've got done so far! 2" chop is calling.
This isn't Merc but is recent and has some of the same custom features. Car is 39 ford standard coupe with top cut off and Studebaker windshield chopped 5 in. The top is fibergllass over wireform frame. the doors are sectioned 2 in. and Studebaker supplied the windwings and window frames. DeChrome
Anyone know where I can get the chrome trim for the side? My car is missing some small Merc specific parts.
It's a beautiful car with many nice design features. The Stude windshield is a neat idea, it integrates well with curves of the car. I also like the way you added the small "step-plates" by the fenders. Question: What are those wheels? The dish looks like a buffed Continental rim, but I don't recognize the centers. Are they custom-made?
I was browsing Fabian Valdez's site, Vintage Hammer Garage, and this was there. Is this the merc Rudy was workin on or somone's elses? Anyways, it looks great. Hop to have some pics of mine here soon. Kent what's the deeceesion on the wndow treatment? Oh, the paint and new wheel cover looks good! I do however like the first (when it was a temp vert and the cadi) wheel cover's. Take care. Ken
I love the shot of the english wheel with the Merc in the background. That angle is just killer. Does anyone have any shots of the Jerry Yatch Mercury that was the top full custom at the Detroit Autorama in Detroit in the fifties? That was my heart stopper as a kid. I hung around Bill Hines shop in Lincoln Park MI just for a glimpse of that car. Would love to hang around the shop and watch you guys do this one.
53chevy. Thanks for your kind words. Haven't decided about the shape of the sidewindows yet. Have some ideas, though. We'll see... The "old" wheels were 16" and had all the trim you could get for those Ford/Merc wheels. The hubcap is a plain one with outer small ribs. Tires were Ford's own tires 600-16". Now I have the ultimate WW-tire with a 4 1/4 side. Size 710-15". Hubcaps are Cad sombreros with a bullet. hotrod1940. Sad to say, but "this one" is already chopped... I have plenty more of those pics from the chopping. Will put them up, as soon as I find the time to work on them. Take care !
Here is a picture or two of the 40 merc that we did, its a 5 inches chop with the windshield pushed up into the roof 1.5 inches. We also hand fabricated the the windows and the rear ones go up and down! Everyone that I talked to (Barris, Windfield, Starbird) its the only one it the world that has rear windows that go up and down. When I find time I will post more pictures of it.
I would love to have an old merc. like any of these or maybe i should go chop the top of the 46 and see what happens
very cool ride, you swedisch guys have the best rods in europe. I hope to go to a meeting there in 2007.
Recently updated the 39- Now features shaved deck and fuel neck, and sports 41 Stude tail lights. No chop yet--
Hmm... Palle from Denmark (EMILIEDK is his HAMB name) has a cool one aswell! I think it belongs in this thread!! Cool thread by the way!!
I have some more also, this merc belonged to our friend. He traded it at the Rebel Run show this past Sept I couldn't believe he did that Debb
I just want to clear this rumor up before it gets out of hand. As far as I know (being the owner's friend/ builder) it was not traded. I just talked to him tuesday and he still owns it. Thank you for the kind words about the merc.
Wow, you did a nice job on that one, Tony. Haven't seen any pics of it after it was finished. The interior is fabulous. Wish mine will be someday too... Did you do the interior, as well? Best J.B.
Well here's my heap. I got it back in 2001. Soon to be a 40's California Custom. Now that my 1953 Chevy truck is kinda done. I'll start on this in 2007. I'm pushing closer to use a 40/41 Packard grill versus the stock (I keep going back and forth). I have a cherry 40/41 Packard grill (My orig grill is in great condtion too, Call me Fickle!) to use and love the look of the Westgard 39 Ford vert Custom. I too have a soft spot for 39/40 Merc Customs.
