The text on that Bosch Magneto Company sign looks photoshopped. The lettering just does not look right to me. I deal with Photoshop everyday. It's what I do.

I think you're right Bob, I thought it was a european photo but the signage and fire hydrant all look to be US.
And I agree the signage appears to have been photoshopped but not surprising if it's to be blown up so large.

  3. It's 100% true. There's a law that says if it was a lie, they couldn't put it on the intraweb. :D

Hey Lowcab, you could be right, I nicked this one out of the company's archive, and saw several pics where the Bosch sign was 'shopped in very crudely...

What's with the laced on "patch" on that rear tire? I can't imagine it's strong enough to hold air - maybe to cover a thin spot?

Bob sent me an email about this last night, his thought that the car in the front was a Rambler, was quite good because the radiators are shaped about the same. I spent a lot of time thinking about it today at work and then it came to me....

I was thinking that it might be a Rainer or a Royal Tourist which was made in Cleveland, OH. and it turned out to be the latter after a bit of research. Here is a link to one Twin Six posted on theoldmotor.com

Notice on the botom line, Chrysler had finally
sealed the deal for Dodge Brothers. I will NEVER
understand why Walt made DeSoto #2 and Dodge
#3 in the lineup, unless maybe Dodge's rep as a
    truck builder, not only autos.

    ^^^

My schoolboy French tells me that isn't a Gordon Bennet car, but the Brasier car won the Gordon Bennet cup.

If you google Gordon Bennet you should find plenty of references to the races he sponsored.

  24. Initially DeSoto was #3, just above Plymouth, but shifted in the early 1930s. You have to remember that Chrysler set up Plymouth and Desoto as a reaction to the bank not wanting to sell Dodge to him. The main reason why Chrysler wanted Dodge was for its dealer network. Plymouth and Desoto had only just been introduced when the bank relented and let him buy Dodge. I think right from the start DeSoto struggled to find its place, and that was why it was first to be dropped.

  25. My French is also only schoolboy level but I think this ad says that Brasier won the G-B cup in both 1904 and 1905 and competed in all three automobile classes in the 1906 French GP. The ad looks to be for their regular 15hp model.

  26. The top pic here is an unusual looking long wheelbase car that almost looks to be sagging in the middle. I think it might be a 1907 National Model L - a 75hp six on a 127" wb according to The Standard Catalog.

  27. I guess this is the 1902 Serpollet Oeuf de Paques - maybe after its retirement from racing??

This is very similar to a National of that period, but the lack of dual chain drive and a radiator...and the appearance of the un-mistakeable full eliptical "buggy" springs means that this is actually a 6-cylinder 1907 Franklin Model H

This example is an original un-restored racer:

I love race cars, but it ALMOST looks better with fenders.
